OK,,For those that keep up with my carry'ings on,,, I believe I made a good deal on them 3 winches I got on The Market Place,,a couple of weeks ago,,,yes I did,,,,

 One of the winches was a 2000# Traveler brand that didn't need nuttin but to rewind the cable and sold it to my Bro,,for a tad more than I paid for the lot. He left with a BIG smile on his face,,,,,

 The second one is a Ramsey 3000# HEAVY DUTY and built hell for stout,,,that sob weighs a LOT as I can barely move it by myself. All I had to do was open the motor and clean up the armature and brushes and fields as it must of been in a flood for all the sand etc. Motor works great now and winch is ready to sell. I'll bet that that Ramsey weighs TWICE more than the HF 9000# I bought for my car hauler,,,,,

 Now,,the 3rd one is a Reese Tow-power 2000# that they use on boat trailers. It's problem is the power cord and the cord for the controller are missing. I hot wired to test the motor and motor and winch both work great!! I have called Reese for replacement cords and they do not stock ANY spare parts for these. The parts guy told me, Those are from china and china does not build any parts because thay want to sell you a new unit,,!!

 I also broke a plastic "Knob" on the side of the "plastic" case when trying to open it and that is not available,,,,!! What a F*****way to do business!!!

 Anyway, I've called McMaster-Carr, Surplus Center and checked out Ebay and Walmart.com for the plug-in connectors to build my own pigtails but them friggin connectors must be China Only as well,,,,I am currently machining another Knob from an old aluminum pump  impellar that will work just fine to replace the plastic knob,,,

 Anybody got a clue wher to look for them connectors? They are both .630 OD. The "power connector" has two female prongs and the "controller connector" has 3 male prongs in a circular arrangement

might check horriblefreight  for a similar winch, they may have the remote ?

maybe some used-abused resell place with 'dead old stock/ busted pkgs ??

 OK, this one is for them FRIENDLY juicetricians on here.. Thiswas in the box of parts with the winches and I believe it may be a solenoid of sorts for the controller. I find lots of these on the net but with different hook up patterns,,,!! This one has NO letters, NO Numbers NO nuttin,,,how does one figure which is what,,?? It haas 4 big lugs on top and 3 small screws on side like maybe for the 3 wires on most controllers,,,??

easy, peasy....

my wild guess...

...based on the center small screw IS connected to the big stud below it ( check with ohmeter...)

push button goes between small left screw and center one ( call this 'winch in')

push button connected to small right screw and center screw( call this 'winch out')

stud under center screw goes to Battery +12

stud right of it goes to battery - ( ground)

stud lower left goes to winch red wire

stud lower right goes to winch blk wire

how it works.

when you push 'winch in' , a relay(solenoid) goes clunk, connects +12 battery to lower left stud AND ground to lower right stud, motor spins, cable pulls in....

when you push the 'winch out' , the other relay  goes clunk, connects GROUND to the left stud, and +1 to the right stud, motor spins  in reverse, cable goes out.

You should put a 40 amp resettable circuit breaker between battery and the +12 stud.

I'll have to check one of mine, but that 'should' work....

The 4 BIG LUGS are for Battery power and to the motor terminals... There are two types of motors.. See if you have the standard 3 terminals lugs or  if it only has 2 terminals ( the case is always ground)...

  Well,, SO Many Thanks Jay and Steve,,,the friggin wind got up too bad the afternoon to do anything else outside,,so I hit on my trusty lathe in the garage and finished machining a knob for the small winch,,,,,it come out lots better than the plastic pos they put on it,,,,

  Again Jay and Steve, you GUYS are project  savers ,,,, My lathe is your lathe ,,,,if I got the material,,,,,OK,,,?

My grandpa was a machinist in 1940 makings small parts for the war on a 9 inch South Bend Lathe.. When the war was over they had a zillion spare lathes in the country.. Offered the Operators they could have their lathe for something like $50. ( maybe less, i forgot half the story over 70 years)........ Dad inherited that lathe about 1965 and i inherited it from him about 1985 ......... use it a couple times a week !!

Well now,,,, that adds a few more guys that I can ask for a machined part....

Joe, I just bought the 12,000 one from HF.  I'm hoping I'll like it.  Otherwise,,,,,, you going to the junk yard in the near future?

  Yeah, Steve,,,them lathes work on you for sure,,,!! When I was still working for pay,,,I spent a lot of time at the local machine shop, looking in on Hi Priority jobs and I enjoyed the time as I always was facinated how them machinists could fashion some pretty elaborate items out of a chunk of metal!! I STILL will "look" for reasons to go in the garage to "make" something on the lathe,,,,, I've always wanted a small mill but just cannot talk ole Joe into turning the money loose for one so,,I bought a big floor drill press and just went with a nice vise for a small mill and that gets me by for now ,,,,

Hay Joe just barrow the use of a good mill. Then you can help me check up on what a rich neighbor told me. He had a big O'l Bridgeport that he told me was capable of reproducing it self. He made lots of money inventing stuff and was always puttering in his shop with a lathe or his mill or just doodling on a piece of graph paper.  I do believe what he told me, but how many years would it take to make all the pieces that are in a milling machine. But if time was free it would be cheap.  If you could barrow the first milling machine.

Oh he was frugal too.  An he told me I might make it too  one day as I patched old worn out junk together too.  I have always admired those who do machine work. I have to much dyslexia and would get the measurements all screwed up.
