Worked at a job site today that had a VERY NICE looking '45 with a front end loader on it. It had a hydraulic 2 way "dump" cylinder on it ?? How could this feature be done on the WD hydraulic system ??

The absolute nicest loader there ever was for a WD/WD-45 was the Allis-Chalmers 400 series "445" model loader. Live crankshaft driven pump with 10-12 GPM with a 3 gallon tank built into the left tower. None better than this loader.

Thaks Doc for the info, the tractor was sitting in 2 inches of water due to the recent "local" rain and snow melt so I didn't want to investigate. It did NOT have any hydraulic hose hooked to the rear port so you are most certainly correct From 50' away, this guy got a heck of a deal for $1200, original paint and upgraded 12 volt ignition system

Dr Allis how was the pump mounted? Was it underneath with a belt or did it go through the frontend block and mount out front? Dad talked about someone that had one but I never seen one. Tom

There have been pics put on this website. The pump sat directly under the radiator and was driven by the crankshaft direct. No belt. The hand crank feature was removed to make room for the hydraulic pump.

On a "side-note", We ran a straight WD with a trip bucket loader , we were able to keep the "factory headlights" in place with this loader . Am I mistaken that the WD's headlights were on "basically" conduit pipes "just" ahead of the fuel tank ??

FreeGas ..... I answered YOUR STUPID QUESTION... You asked how you would make the WD HYDRAULIC SYSTEM work on a loader.... Multiple valve is the only way...
Now if you had asked WHAT kind of loader would you put on a WD.. Then you got a great answer from the Dr. and others..... I would have thought even YOU were smart enough to look and see if the tractor had a front mounted pump !!!

Sadly, I was at the owners property this afternoon to do more work in the house, only to see the 45 parked in a different area with the lawn being mowed around her . Apparently the engine started knocking going down the driveway grading it at finally died/seized where it sits . The owner has done some homework and has found an O/H kit for $500, but said his research says that removing the cylinders are next to impossible ?? Is this endeavor worth the effort on his part ? He's very savvy when it comes to mechanical repairs

Removing the sleeves on a WD45 engine that seized while running will be the least of his problems. Better have $2000+ in the piggy bank... :-(

His research is junk. A wet sleeve 226 is far from impossible to disassemble.

Claims he's located an OH kit for $500 ?? He'll do the work himself. Thanks for the reply

Mine were not hard to do. Pull the head, pull the motor, turn it upside down, set it on the frame rails, remove pan, remove the crank, and knock out the sleeve's. Mine came out with 2 of the pistons stuck inside them. Check out the oil pump while it is upside down. Give the block a good cleaning while the sleeves are out. Check the block where the o rings set. It helps if you have it on a cement floor with an engine hoist.

sounds like NO OIL....Main bearings / crank journal turning / rod repairs........ like mentioned, liner removal is the EASY PART.

That will only be for the sleeve/piston/ring kit.
Gaskets, seals, crankshaft repair, connecting rod repair, bearings, valve job, oil pump, water pump, clutch...etc... will be extra.

Yeah, I think I'd pop the oil pan and start looking at the rod bearings first.

Yes Steve, his description of the fail is exactly that, but the oil pan had oil in it ??

either way, I would start on the bottom end. disconnecting rods one at a time should tell you where the problem lies. One cylinder may be locked up, or one rod bearing spun. You'll find it faster under there. Head has to come off either way in the end, unless the rod bearing can be turned on the tractor, of which I don't think anyone does anymore.
He may get lucky and it's a stuck piston, which can be pulled and replaced, liner and all.
