We watched 3 grandkids Friday night thru Saturday morning. Cartoons are nothing like I watched. Anyway that wore my butt out and I took a nap early afternoon Saturday. Woke up and turned the tv on and nothing. I know it got nailed once with a flying pillow, but other than that it seemed ok.
Tried everything I could think of to get it going. Screw it. It's 10 years old anyhow and went to Wally's and got another one. Was cheaper than the one that was broke. 65" this time, pretty intense. Take some getting used to. Don't want to miss Battle Bots, one of my favorites.

I don't quite know how to take that,,,,??
I had to replace the big screen in den with a "smart Tv" and I'm really liking it as NOW I'm thinking I'm gonna do away with the excessive monthly cost of cable,,,I'm in a heated discussion with cable company cause they dropped Newsmax,,,,!! There are more channels available on zuko, rulo, pulo rulo and many others with them "catchy" names and ,,,,and,,,most of them are FREE,,,!! So, why have cable as most of the channels I now watch are free,,,,?? You just gotta have an internet connection.

To the OP, I certainly hope there wasn't a button pushed on the "under side" of the tv that over-rode the remote, OR, HEAVEN FORBID, the remote batteries weren't dead !!

Try to get it fixed when it does throw up, not so good a deal. Our Vizio is going on six years now, new unit in Living room already made it a year. Nothing two year about any tv out there that is just a Rube repairman blowing smoke.

I have a 50" plasma TV that's at least 15 years old. The darn thing just won't die. Maybe when the grandson is over next I can give him one of my air guns and make a deal with him?

Worked electrical industry 21 years in power station, BIGGEST effect on ANY electronics devices is Power Surges. Live in certain Rural areas can expect a power surge nearly once a month, in city closer to once a week with grid shift switching and repairs occurring. City dwellers will lose a TV or fancy electronics device at least every few years where rural where do not have it on near as often anyway as NOT bored into staring at the damn things 24/7 and electronics last considerably longer.

I agree with DMiller.I know of people that have their TV's on 24/7. Running any machine that many hours will wear it out. We stream anything we watch which isn't that often. All that's on TV shown by the Mainstream Media is Propaganda and that not the news! I had Dish Network. Decided not to pay for 200 channels so I could watch 5.

Back in the day I used to service TV's when it used to be cost effective to do it. Back then they had five or six modules or board assemblies so the cost wasn't very bad but today you have one or maybe two boards in a TV and the price is so high you might as well go buy a new TV. I won't even hardly look at my own electronics. Remember those first VCRs? Expensive and now if you can even find one it's like maybe $50. I used to fix those also but not anymore. Throw it away and buy a new one is my answer.

When I fixed TV's there were no boards in them, just vacuum tubes! LOL |

It is probably true, things don't last as long as they used to, but I think someone is blowing hot air claiming 2 year life spans. Something else to note, the appliances of 50 years ago cost a whole lot more than today, as a percentage of the average household income! Repairability wise, in general, it's usually not worth it. I have repaired a couple TV's microwaves, cloths washers, dish washers, etc, but most were easy fixes and it was for myself or fiends/family members. If I was to charge the going rate, new would have been cheaper. and, a lot of, (most of?) appliances come from China, and documentation is horrible, or nonextant. If documentation is available, it is often a translation from Chinese that is very hard to understand, often making no sense at all.....at least that has been my experience.

I built a couple crystal radios when I was a young lad, never got one to work. But, I had no idea what I was doing, and no one able to guide me. I did build a electric motor from wire and eight penny nails that worked. |

Back in grade school I made a muscle stimulator and put it in a Quaker Oats container with aluminum foil on each end. The on/off switch and oscillator frequency adjust was in the middle. Turned all the way up it would shock the crap out of yourself. It was great fun challenging my friends to see how long they could hold onto it. It didn't survive long because it usually got thrown when the person holding it screamed. 😆

I did the same Joe. Smart tv no cable. You can download the newsmax app on your TV and it’s free. I did buy one of those $60 antennas that look like something off of MASH but can’t get it talking to the tv. Couple neighbors have them and pick up over 25 stations. One even gets espn.
