Just purchased a HD4 with final drive inoperative on right side when sitting  The cover on the bottom for the final drive is pushed away from the casting. Like the bolts are stretched
Any ideas before I remove the cover

if your lucky and it was hit you might be able to replace it. if it was due to bull drive gear then your probably in for a big job and expensive.  worse scenario is the bearing went out and it let your bull gear start wobbling which possible could mean you have to find a good case. look at the rear drive sprocket and on each side you will see a flat bracket and see if the rear drive sprocket  is touching a bracket. there should be couple inches clearance on both sides. you also can take the plug out of the lower part of the case and see if theres is any metal in there.

if the drive or driven gear are bad - good luck in finding them -
Lower outer bearing went out in my machine and I had the case machined to accept new bearing cup , with all the work it was $400 a side to do them + cost of new bearings , seals and axle added after .
