Inspecting a Ski Lift today and ran into this engine. It’s used to unload the lift in the event of failure of the electric prime mover, or a general power outage.

Remember going to small carnivals and county fairs where amusement rides were run by AC stationary power units . Guess ski lifts have gone modern with electric motors now

All aerial ski lifts still require a standby engine in the event of a power failure. You can't have people stuck in the air for hours until power is restored. It is not uncommon for repurposed engines to be used as they usually are only run for routine testing.

Most of the motors at the county fair rides were 125 cid ALLIS ( same as a B or C tractor)... Might have been others, but the fairs around the midwest were mostly the CE motor... still see a few when the RIDES come to town.
------------- Like them all, but love the "B"s.
