The pto, can be mechanical or hyd. ------------- 1945 C, 1949 WF and WD, 1981 185, 1982 8030, unknown D14(nonrunner) |

WOW, very good questions  . Our 180 has that particular lever, and I just assumed  that that automatically meant "hydraulic" engagement. Now I am looking forward to a reply from Doc/Mac/Tbran

Many years ago two older gents came in and ask what were the 2 levers for on the left hand side of the steering wheel. I informed them there were never two levers there and explained the function of the linkage for mechanical and hydraulic operation. Three days later they brought me pictures of TWO levers on the LH side... !!!! I sent the pictures to Norm Swinford and it stumped him. He checked around and at one time there was an engineering exorcise to allow the pto to be decoupled so as to be able to be connected with the engine running ,,, lost the photo but the guys at the shop still make fun of me being showed up by to elderly gents. Norm said that one was probably let go or sold at surplus with out removing the extra lever... just a bit of trivia... ------------- When told "it's not the money,it's the principle", remember, it's always the money.. |

no as stated it was an engineering exercise which Norm stated most likely - it proved too costly and not enough demand - was sold as was the series VI D 17... No one ever saw another that I know.. ------------- When told "it's not the money,it's the principle", remember, it's always the money.. |

| Same place as a D-17. Very close to the clutch pedal pivot, which on a 180/185 is behind the battery box. |

Not to change the subject on models, but where was the lever/rod for the pto engagement on the WD ? I'm drawing a complete blank as I was only 8 years old when we ran one

Similar but not the same I believe, The 170 had the d-series style torque tube with mechanical power director and no option for dual or hyd pto. Late 185s did not have the disconnect on outside. WD was bolted to steering post down by brake pedals. MACK

| I have a 185 with the mechanical pto and the engagement lever is in the same place as the hydraulic engagement lever which is on the left side of the instrument panel. There is a rod going from the lever down to the arm that is located behind the battery box. Hope this helps. Don Jr. |

Thanks Mack, was it a "pull" lever by any chance ?? Side note, did the WD have the ability to "lock" a brake pedal for stationary type work ?

| WD & 45 locked both brakes with a cam attatched to a pull rod. Set em hard or you'll hear that "clank" and away she goes. |
