My D15 has the early one piece solid front axle (wide front end).

The newer design has a two piece adjustable axle.

The spindles are different - the obvious difference is the ID of inner wheel bearings.

Newer spindle may be slightly longer vertically - 12" as opposed to 11 3/4"

Can I use the newer spindles that are readily available and simply change the inner wheel bearing?

There was one washer at the bottom of vertical shaft.   My measurement of 11 3/4" was taken with washer removed.

The key way is very badly worn on my spindle.
