Getting ready to start my first restoration of a Persian Orange tractor. My 1949 G in particular. I picked up some PPG splotches and didn't really like any of their offerings. My neighbor has a WD45 that he keeps by the road as yard art. It was painted with Nason paint matched to PO1 10 years ago or so. Went to another neighbor who restores tractor, he has done many ACs. Currently doing a WD45 diesel. He uses a nice shade of orange that he likes. Kind of a blend between PO1 and 2. Doesn't look like much in the dark, but really comes alive in the sun. I am leaning towards this one. So cast your votes on the shade of paint. | #2 is prettier paint but is not what was meant for older AC's. Suit yourself if it's yours. |

I would say the Tractor color is closer to PO#1 than the cap in your hand. But as mentioned your tractor your color. Good luck with the G. We need some pictures too! How come you don't want to use Agco P.O. 1 I used it on 3 of my D14's and it looks great. My vote is also for #1. It is just meant to be. But like some have said, it's your tractor so you can color it anyway you want. I never had an Allis new enough to have PO #2, so I'm a little prejudiced.

| For me it's this simple...a guy starts by saying he's going to do a restoration. Well then,why even ask a question about the correct color? If you don't know the difference that's one thing but I'm sure D series4 knows. Back to your tractor,your color but leave out the word restoration. My uncle painted his 45 #2 years ago and while it was eye candy,it looked funny beside dad's WD with #1. My opinion only. |

It’s your tractor but I had a friend that totally restored his WD45 front to back, and inspected and replaced everything that was not within spec and then painted it an off color orange. He has been trying to sell it for some time and can’t get a buyer because he didn’t paint it the correct color. I painted a TL-W loader and an unstyled WC Speed Maintainer back when PPG still had the correct Persian orange #1 . Last week a neighbor was trying to match a gas tank on a B that was more recently painted P.O.#1. It did not match my PPG. I had a spray can of Agco P.O. #1. It was not a match to either orange. The only real option now to get the correct shade of P.O. #1 is to find a well hidden part that has original paint (I originally the back side of an oil bath air cleaner that was covered in oily dirt and had never seen sunlight from new. It was an exact match to PPG P.O. #1) and have the paint tinted to match . Be sure to get lots of paint and get some put in spray cans for touchup. If you don't get extra paint and run out, tinting more is not a guarantee to match the first batch. ------------- Nothing is impossible if it is properly financed |

My vote....PO #1 If I ever get to paint another older Allis I'm going to take a planter lid off my old, always shedded, AC mounted snap coupler planter, polish it up and get it matched. 15 years ago, give or take, I painted my WD with PO #1 from Hershel. I think it was a good match to original. After looking at it more this week, yes, I am reconsidering. The color I was looking at is closer to PO2 or corporate orange. I will look for some hidden spots of good paint on my D14s. I am with the majority, I guess. It would look best in the correct, original PO#1, but it is your decision. I once saw a B that had been painted an awful shade of robin's egg blue in the past. When I saw it, it was a traumatizing mix of the blue with quite a bit of rust and some of the original orange peeking through.
