Folks,
I saw a nice looking 170 tonight on my way home. Its at a local auction house. I did not stop and look at it. Any ideas what they are going for? My guess would be $2500 to $3500? Maybe more? I will try to stop and take some pictures.
 Regards,
 Chris

The right auction can surprise you with a good deal though.

Its an auction could sell for $1500 or $8500.  I sold my 175 diesel with loader for $5500 it had a few drips but above average.

I saw an estate auction 1969 One-Seventy gas bring $6500 in the last 30 days. Above average condition, clean, waxed and sharp. When new it would have sold for $5500.

$5,500 in 1969 is about the same value as $35,000 today!

Whatever they can sucker you for plus the buyers surcharge. That's what crooks, I mean auctioneers do.

If it was fun to pull in LOW gear, I could have a John Deere.

One at the consignment auction where I sold my stuff last spring brought $4500.00 it was rough. But owner was there, was not a gear jumper, Gas unit.

Worth more to me than a series 4 17 with 3pt, you will have better PS and that’s what makes a tractor in this hp size handy if you have a need for it. Just my opinion—

Did/does the 170 have the same PD clutch(dry) as a D series ?

I think we've been thru this before: An early One-Seventy is EXACTLY the same driveline as a series 4 D-17 with a 3-point hitch, except for the hydrostatic power steering. Power Director clutch is bathed in oil.

Paid $3500 for a 1967 170 with 417 loader, good tires, 6000 hrs on it last Feb. Paid $4800 for a 1974 175, far nicer shape with 1000 hrs, no loader, last week.

For what it is worth I bought this 170 Diesel a couple of years ago for $2200. The fenders have rust behind the supports but it runs, works great and the lights work. I replaced the front tires and had the wheels powder coated I plan to paint them when I paint the tractor.

Chris

It has the front grill, if runs out good,   I see 4500 plus. Don’t tell me much more about it— lol. I don’t have room for another tractor.

Looks like the same shape as the $4800 175. However mine came with a grill that was hit by a bush hog. So you might be a bit ahead, or I paid too much for mine!

Chris, I have about 8500 or so in this one 2200 hrs. By the time I went over the tractor, bought a loader, had cylinders rebuilt, it adds up. I am very happy with it, maybe more than some think it’s worth. Just look over it really well. They’re not making new ones.

RB,
Humm? Destiny? Hummmmm? Well I didnt look that tractor over real close but have been around enough of these to see a paint job covering a lot of sins. I dont think it is worth $3500?? Needs new front tires, Rears are up but have a lot of wear.  I will have to mull that over. One thing that I was doing prior to this Covid stuff was some antique tractor pulling. This tractor doesnt fall into this category so it would have to have another duty.
Also the 170 is a newer version of the D17 that I have around here somewhere too. That one I can still pull in the old man classes, plus do a little brush hogging too. Where is that tractor?? Hummm? Hate that when you lose a tractor!Smile
Regards,
 Chris

Fred,
It may be a very good tractor but the paint and details are not as good as they could be.
