I recently purchased a 766 forklift and was curious if anyone knew how many were produced? Seems I have only seen pictures of them in brochures and books, and google searches don't seem to yield much either. 

I'm currently working on cleaning it up, making the brakes work, and overhauling the engine. I'll be sure to post more photos as I get it back in shape!

I'm also hunting for a fuel tank for it. I believe all of the C and D series forklifts used the same tank, as well as some of the backhoes. I would sure appreciate any help locating one!

According to C.H. Wendel’s book, “The Allis-Chalmers Story,” the 766 forklift was built in 1982 only....Beginning with sn 3201?? No other sn info is listed.

Same book’s Page 145 says; “One of the most innovative models was the 766 Tow-Eze rough terrain model. It was factory designed with a hitch tongue on the rear of the machine that permitted towing down a highway from one job to another. This unique machine listed at approximately $38,000.”

Your 766 photo shows it’s tow hitch is still there & maybe operational.

My 706D’s fueltank clogged once at it’s fuel line’s fitting. I used a field flag wire to break up the clog. I think I was lucky because removing the fuel tank requires removing many other things.

A few years ago, I looked at a 766. It ran & operated-somewhat. Had to shut it off to shift trans(clutch?), gear jumper trans, shuttle’s torque converter was slipping bad, steering spindles worn out, hydraulics all had continuous air in system, etc.. I made an offer, but the seller wouldn’t budge. So I walked away. Thinking 766 has AC 433T Diesel engine?
Your 766 looks to be in better shape. Congratulations!
