What is different with the 175 diesel muffler? What are the intake & exhaust diameters? Thank you, Kevin

From what I can tell, the 170/175 diesel mufflers had a centered outlet and smaller outlet dia. Inlet pipe is same, so is oval body.

D19 muffler 246130 had a shorter outlet pipe than the 185 muffler and also had a slightly smaller diameter. I will have the 170 gas muffler available, but might have to wait till some of these sell before I order more lol

Somewhere along the line our local AC dealer got the part numbers mixed up on these mufflers. I few years ago I ordered (2) for the 185 and the new one had a small pipe in the top and the new old stock they had was the correct size but the pipe was in the center? So I also ordered (1) for the 175 D and it came correct from what I remembered being for the 185. So I bought (3) of those although they are Stanley’s. I’m still not sure the top pipe was correct at 2 1/4” for the 185’s? Some reason I thought they were 2 3/8”?

Pretty much everything is different for the 175 muffler.  Hoping to get a new Nelson for it one day.  That Stanley sounds awful!

My 175 gas that I bought in 1977 had a Nelson muffler with an inlet in the center of the oval, and the outlet was offset just like the 185 mufflers Alex has.

Are they welding these by hand or robot? Welding job doesn't look too great. They can do better. JMHO, Tracy

I'm sure they are welding the ovals by hand. They might be welding the pipes by robot though. I will pass on your feedback to Nelson.

Stanley brand mufflers for 180/185 had the outlet centered and it was smaller diameter than the Nelson OEM outlet.

I should also mention that the diameter of the outlet pipe is 2 3/8" on these Nelson mufflers, which is what the original 180/185 had. It was pointed out to me that the stanley mufflers are 2" on the outlet.

It was very pleasing listening to the 301 as I had remembered with the Nelson. I also think it’s better for the engine as I noticed less back pressure and maybe a little more RPM’s. I posted a picture on another thread with it installed. Thank you Alex for following through, getting these manufactured.

Thanks for the feedback! I'm glad to hear they sound great! The bigger outlet pipe i'm sure is an improvement!

Still considering them next year but don't have much interest at this point. Unfortunately it doesn't make sense to order 100 if only 5 sell.
