There were multiple fatalities in the area within the past 4  days "here"Cry. Tonight on my way home I got tailgated for 2 miles by a "biker"  while I was doing 48 in a 40 Confused. This PECKER H%$D decided to finally pass and made an oncoming car swerve to his/her right, while the ASSH872E biker cut ME off AngryAngry. Sadly, he had I "assume" was a preteen son on the back of him Ouch. These people are OUT OF CONTROL IMO Ermm. They're getting WORSE than the spandex peddlers Wink And yet there are multiple LAWYER firms that cater to these "riders"  (personal injury) by the bucket load Shocked.
When I say "tailgate", I mean all I could see of him was his shoulders/helmet Shocked, not even his headlight over my tailgate !! !!

I really hate when the bad ones give us riders a bad name.  I do not tailgate, I only pass when safe zone and I do not try to push traffic when on two.  Stupid people also drive cars and trucks so it is not just bikers.

Idiots will cull themselves out of the herd. Only problem I can see it that if they take an innocent person with them. Stupidity kills, just not fast enough. Thumbs Up

If it was fun to pull in LOW gear, I could have a John Deere.
Real pullers don't have speed limits.
If you can't make it GO... make it SHINY

I understand what you're saying about the "motorists", but in the very RECENT past few weeks, the bikers are going plain crazy Confused . 3 weeks ago there was a fatal cycle crash that was caused by ANOTHER biker rear ending a left-turning biker in a turn lane Ouch

We had a fatality just last week. High speed, single motorcycle crash into the median. He got a bit "tangled" in those wires they put up to avoid the cross overs. Dead on the scene.
I cant stand those guys that go high speed, weave in/out or split the lane and worse of all do their wheelie tricks down the rode. There the ones that kill others with them.
My Dad taught me a little trick years ago on the tailgating. If you click on your flashers for just one blink it gives the illusion of braking. Works on cars, trucks and motorbikes

And again freedguy, it is Not ALL Biker's, there are a few that give a bad name, I will go on note here that anyone driving a Minivan is a Jerk as they get in the way on the highways thinking they are gonna stop speeding, seen that all too many times.  Or the Honda Prius or Nissan Leaf drivers running 80-90 on the highway then cut thru traffic like it does not exist.  Have the Millennials that text while driving at speed in city or on highway, run people off the road regardless the machine they drive.

Going on with a Generic they are ALL bad Sh!t Bikers pizzes me off as much as any form of bias to any aspect.

There are idiots driving ALL forms of motorized vehicles.....from mopeds to big trucks. I drive a big truck and have to put up with them all. It is called defensive driving.

I had a person in a car follow me through Grand Rapids flossing their teeth steering with their elbows.  I have been a biker for over 50 years with no on road accidentst.   Deer was always my biggest worry on the road.  It is a small few that give the rest of us a bad name.

Pretty easy to find stupid people in any group of motorists. Bikers don't have the market cornered.

Just count your blessing Freedguy if all the poor drivers your interacting with are on motor cycles your chances of surviving are much better. Just think if the poor driver was in a truck.

I have the ut-most respect for the "big rig" drivers. I go out of MY way to yield to them attempting a turn onto a cross road even though there are "citiots" blaring their harns at ME , LOL!!!! I can only imagine the "horrors" of inconsiderate drivers you see Confused . Again, it's the "bikers" that have gotten out of control recently, even the local news did a report just this morning about the "rise" in biker DEATHS this summer in Indiana Ouch.

Will never forget, I-69 between Lansing and I-94, coming up behind a big rig. He was weaving. A LOT. Made sure to have plenty of room to pass, and went around him QUICK so as not to get side swiped. The SOB was reading a newspaper!!!

'bigrig' drivers lost my respect a few years back...
one, caused millions of $$ damage to the Burlington bay skyway here ( Google it) by driving his dump trailer in the UP position !
also, NONE acknowledge me  flashing my lights to say 'come on over'  when they change into my lane. I counted 27 guys wanting my lane, 27 times I flask 'OK', ZERO replies. In the good old days they'ed flash their running lights as a 'thank you'.
I'd still like to know why 'hogs' don't need mufflers...

The gas station on the corner of the side road to work has a nice large parking area in the back for truckers.

After having all of the light poles knocked nearly over, they straightened them all out and put concrete filled pipe abutments in to protect the poles. Now these abutments are just about knocked over and just a few more inches and they’ll be backing into the poles again!

The dumbest thing, if they would just pull in parallel to the back edge, they could pull in, and take off out of the loop around the building and never have to back towards the lights! Plenty of room in all cases.

I guess there’s some sort of dickswinging contest about who is the best backer. They all look dumb instead. But they’re all just awesome, just ask!

Motorcycles and bicycles need to be banned from roadways! ---as for truck drivers nowdays 99% of them are dopeheads and ex-cons. --- THATS why I gave up driving ---got tired of dealing with them!
Car drivers are all idiots! ----Had to move a combine down the county road yesterday and swore I will NEVER take it on the road again! Damn cars!

I just retired from trucking, was an owner operator from 1974 until this past april. Y'all are correct for the better part the quality of drivers is nonexistent today . What we used to see and talk about for 6 months is now a daily occurrence. I can't tell you how many times in the past 10 years I have asked to back up a truck because they can't . Trucks held together with zip ties & duct tape, riding down the road 75 mph 5 foot right off the bumper of anything in their way,40 mph through parking lots. Total disregard for anything and anyone around them. It all boils down to the big companies not willing to pay a reasonable pay. The big companies give a ton of lip service to it but the bottom line is they put profit before anything else , they refer to their drivers as " seat meat". It was good to me,I did fairly well but I refused to haul heavy cheap freight. The people they have out there now scare me to death and should scare everyone else. Ok,, I'm done ranting guess I'll go fire up the CA and take a little ride

Glad I quit driving in 1974, when I got hungery I eye lids got heavy so I ate too much and the cost was getting higher for food, from the sounds of things sure glad I am got out of it when I did.

Motorcycle riders and gun owners have something in common; a few idiots give us all a bad name.

It's also the same for every group you can name. There are many sensible, law abiding "play by the rules" people, but a few idiots make for a terrible public perception of the whole group.

Son just picked up a 2019 Triumph Scrambler 1200XE for me to ride.
Well I have to say this scooter has a few bells and whistles(electronic cruise control).
It is made for on/off road so now we may try the Trans-America Trail TAT. Starting to put a few miles on it now. Almost got a bunny and a cat this morning riding to work, don't want to hit anything.

Been driving motorcycles since 1962 and driving trucks since 1959 -
Cant tell you how many IDIOTS are out there doing the same , and it seems those drivers now in construction industry are some of the worst .
Only thing is now to get a CDL you need to take a test and to keep driving you need to be part of drug pool so many of those so called pot heads can't work in the driving with a CDL . As far as bike accidents had one where kid pulled out of intersection and i hit him in the drivers door - (He didn't see me on a motorcycle with the headlight on) luck would have it I was almost stopped when i hit his car , bent my forks though as hit him square on

Watched in disbelief and horror as a older woman drove into a GROUP of bikes, said did NOT see them and had no recollection as to what the traffic light color was(Was RED as in Stopped Traffic) where she was 'Just Driving' while we all that witnessed gave accounts.  She was 87, driving a car with NO Brake lights, inoperable turn lamps and license NOT renewed since failed inspection three years prior, but "She had to get to the store for Milk", lived three blocks away.

Hear of and SEE unlicensed car, pickups ON THE ROAD where the driver is cited, the car is NOT hauled off as is their Only transport and they get to do it all over again complaining of the expense of tickets keeping them from fixing and relicensing the machines(Victim Mentality).

What ever happened to Personal RESPONSIBILITY???

Last week as my wife shopped for groceries I sat in the car. With the 6 foot rule and all I did not need to be in the way. But the things going on in the parking lot. Confused Yes it was about 100 but with the windows down it did not kill me.Wink A old gal pulled in front and left the engine run to keep cool as she just sat there. Then got out still running, them I see a teen still inside. The old gal come back and does a circle or 2 before she can find here car.LOL But she managed to back and did not hit my car.LOL But she did not need to worry if the battery would start it cause it had sat and run a 1/2 hour or more.LOL And I beat she believes Confused in globule warming. LOL

Then for my entertainment the typical great grandmother come tottering along with the store boy pushing her cart. With a middle ages woman parking her charge in a car(probably her father) and trying to help (I thought she must know GM). Literally 3 circles around a large parking lot they found a car GGM had key for. Which said the helper did not know what GGM was drive,so maybe just helpful person. Great grandma drives away. How do these people make it home.LOL But I could see both of these drivers running over all manor of things and not know they hit anything.Cry

For some odd reason they do not consider themselves a hazard to motoring safety, "they only drive a few miles per week", "only use the car to the store or doctor office", and we do have OATS have all manner cabs and UBER, why do they NOT just ditch the insurance risk and fight to retain a license they really no longer need?  If cannot see, have NO reflexes left, MUST drive one foot on gas one on brake for fear will forget how TO Brake then need to stop and find a Older Adult Retirement Home.  My own Grandmother had to have a ticketable accident to decide to Stop driving.  Ran into a parked car AT THE CURB, then realized why no stop lights.

As with my grandmother, could not see to know roof leaks, or hear to know toilet Not shutting off, could not see the spills she allowed to dry to concrete before running a damp mop across them to rekindle the Bacterial Colonizing, set fire to her hot pads with her stove where we just shut off the gas, installed a electronic T-Stat she could not manipulate(Had set her house to 'Hades' Level once!).  Got to where would not eat without someone present so off to the nursing facility as we could not be in HER home more than a day or two a week, private in home nurse was nearly as expensive and they do nothing.

Truck driver pulling a van trailer full of flammables bumped into the rear of a tanker full of diesel this afternoon in Walcott, Iowa.  Two small cars alongside wound up in the tangle.

Tanker had a little damage, but no rupture, no loss, no issue.

Van trailer caught on fire, burned it, and the tractor, to the ground:
https://www.kwqc.com/2020/08/30/multi-vehicle-crash-reported-on-i-80-eastbound-near-walcott/" rel="nofollow - https://www.kwqc.com/2020/08/30/multi-vehicle-crash-reported-on-i-80-eastbound-near-walcott/

It should be very obvious that substantial distractions, lack of patience, and bad habits are the three most detrimental circumstances of road travel.  Poor driving skills, substance abuse, and fatigue make all these things worse.

A substantial amount can be learned of a person's driving by a simple walk-around of their vehicle.  A vehicle that has lots of brake dust on the wheels and very worn tires advises that there's a habit of excessive-force to the pedals.

Tiny chips on the front edge of the hood, and chips and/or a sand-blasted windshield identify habitual tailgating.

Abrasion to the outside edges of the side mirrors, chunks and scars on the sidewalls of the tires, and mismatched tires on the right rear corner, tells of poor depth perception and lack of attention to curbs in turns.

I've operated everything from an 11lb carbon-fiber olympic track-racing bicycle, up to a 3100-ton 4-engine river towboat, and in every case, I've found that impatience and inattention yield disasterous results.

There are bad drivers everywhere, operating everything.  As I travel the country, I see very bad decisions made, in droves... over and over again... yet they survive by virtue of sheer luck.  Yesterday, I saw a man, in a 16ft boat with 4 kids, drive right over a submerged concrete wall not once, but THREE TIMES... two of which AFTER I'd hailed him, and advised him of which way to go to avoid the obstacle.  His response-  One finger salute... then full throttle into same wall... clearly marked on every Mississippi River navigation chart since 1916... apparently not worth his time to investigate, and irrelevant to the safety of his craft and passengers.

Not all people are ignorant, rude, impatient, or lacking in skill, but those that are worst, expose those who are almost as bad.  The rest exercise patience at both, and act sensibly, to arrive alive.
