I pull a New Idea 30a sickle mower with my CA - and it works like a champ. At this point I’ve already almost completely restored the mower (mechanically) and I’ve used it to cut 50 acres of hay this year.

The guards I bought to replace the originals don’t fight right. They don’t have the same curve (even though they were supposed to be a replacement) so the sickle sections don’t sit flush with the ledgers.

It still cuts - but not as clean as I’d like / as it should.

I’m having a hard time finding replacement guards that would fight right - any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you really want a sickle bar to cut good I have found if you replace the single prong guards with a double prong guard off a haybine they really cut good. A friend used Hesston guards on his Allis mower and I know of several Deere mowers that use haybine guards. They are less bulky and slip thru the hay better. Tom
