I've read multiple horror stories on a different forum about coons and cooling fans ending BADLY 99% of the time in combine engine compartments. Seem like the majority of the damage is done to green and red/yellow machines. Do the Gleaners have a tighter clearance that doesn't allow the critters into harms way or is a % type of deal as far as green/red/silver units in the field? Whatever color is run, apparently the little bas%^&s can cause big $$$ damage Ouch.

Happens on the silver ones too! Happened to a friend R65 & I found one in behind fan on our R62, no damage on ours, I TRY to remember to check.

M3s here. They get in there but never an issue when we use. Although I always raise the hood before starting to check things over. Last year two were in the shoe area which I did not know about until I fired up the separator clutch and it stalled the whole thing. One dove out and the other had its head crushed.

Happened to a couple of local guys the last couple of years. One with a newer Agco-Massey..Destroyed the radiator, fan, etc. several thousand dollars...the other was a newer deere but it chewed up the wiring harness and that was even more expensive!! so now I am paranoid and look in the engine compartment before start-up.

How many more red and green combines around ?  Statistically more prone to happen.

I think in our area it seems that the raccoons and ground hog populations have increased dramatically over the last 10 years. It seems that nobody traps anymore. Several guys used to come by the farm and ask to trap coons, but now don't come around much. I was told there is no longer a demand for the pelts.

LOL Gleaners are prefect in every way. So there is no grain laying all over them.LOL

I would guess a raccoon is much like a mouse and can fit through a much smaller whole than you would think.
