They used to be. We sold a lot of them in the 70's at the local Coop.

Get a Dole 400 or a midsize GAC cheap tester aren’t worth more than a tire shock

We have the ~400$ Dickey-John tester for grain and I have always thought it was reliable, get the same readings as the elevator. I would think the cheaper one should be ok with less functions? I just have a Vermeer stick tester for hay.

We have had a Dickey John M - 3G for...IDK, 10 years or more? I don’t remember the price. Guess that means I’m not much help. But FWIW, I always thought it does ok. Reads very close to what the elevator says, and you can easily bias the reading if there’s a consistent offset.

Ah, DJ, I used to work there over a decade ago... The mini-GAC was pretty good as I recall but they were several hundred dollars.

GACs aren’t cheap I bought mine with issues and had a factory redo on it. New they are $3000 plus.
