I just got a new manifold for my 51 wd. it is a bit different from what is on there. I have a Zenith carb and there is not enough room to get the bolts between the top of the intake flange and the body of the manifold. the flange is so thick even with shorter bolts i dont know if there will be enough threads left to hold the carb on. Whats the solution??

You will most likely have to put studs in the carb and then you will be able to put them up thru the manifold with nuts on top of the flange. Den

Or thread the manifold and install studs in it...

That's not the worst thing . It looks like 1/4 - 20 ??

The casting was kind of poor, i have already filed casting "flash" off the top of the flange.

I thought this would be a quick swap... lol.

Poor casting, I got a couple like that, I sent them back. Total junk, they were made in turkey if I remember correctly. Got one from Steiner that was good to go. All States Ag were the bad ones.

mine is from Steiner. who the heck designed it so the flange is too close.

i still need to file the neck above the flange so the nut can spin on the stud i made.

The sand casting was just not correct when manufactured.

The parts books shows a stud in the carburetor. PN 70230917. I think is 5/16. Fine thd. one end, course on the other. Should be able to get at any auto supply.

There supposed to be a stud both ends set the nut on the flange and screw the stud up into the nut then put your gasket and carb on with two more nuts the neck usually holds the top from turning thighten from the bottom. Threading wont work due to 5/16 Hole you would need tothread the manifold 3/8 then drill the carb 3/8 and think it would be to close to turn a bolt or nut

5/16 course thread screws nice into my carb.

I've cut two little threaded rods, screwed them into the carb, slid the stud carb combo partially onto the manifold flange. just far enough to get the nut started. tightened it all up.

after a pile of filing and cutting two studs all fits. lock tight will be a must.

i will start painting this weekend.
