We have a series 1 D17. We put the plow on and cannot raise it off the ground. There is sufficient oil and have tried at low idle and higher rpm’s, nothing. Also tried different traction control settings. Would too much oil cause this? Any suggestions?

I would say pump needs rebuild. Unloading valve needs shined while pump is out. MACK

Does the tractor need to be split to get to the pump? I have a manual, but it's at the farm & I am not.

Another question - I expect finding parts won't be easy. How difficult is it to find a rebuilt pump?

Just a FYI . Sandy Lake rebuilt my hydraulic pump for my D 15 . Did a good job . HTH

Before jumping in that far guys...

Is there a possibility that some aspect of the snap coupler bell is jammed, causing it to override the hydraulic lift?

Traction Booster linkage mal-adjusted or missing causes the lift to raise all the time. I'd like to know where they are checking the hydraulic oil level at. Sounds like pump trouble, but it could also be low on oil. It also would be nice to know if the arms will raise when not hooked to the plow.

checked the oil at the oi fill on the right side of tractor. I will check the lift arms without the plow tomorrow. Is there another location to check the oil level?

No. For series 1 that is correct, right side under fuel tank.

DR. Allis - The arms will raise when unhooked from the plow. When the arms are up and the engine is off the oil level is a tad high. When running and arms are up the whole dip stick has oil on it. The traction booster linkage appears to be ok.

Pressure testing the system would be a good thing to do. Plugging in a 4 to 5,000 psi gauge into the remote cylinder outlet and raising the arms to the top and letting the pump hammer away should read 3,000 psi minimum to 3,700 psi max. I'll bet you are low which means the pump has an issue and has to be removed and freshened up.

Could also be a problem with the internal lift cylinder, or the hose that goes to it in the rear rock shaft housing. This would also cause the hyd. oil to be transfered to the differential if there is an internal leak. Is your oil level increasing in the differential and dissapearing from the hyd. sump?
