I have a steel roof I need to put snow stops on. Looking for suggestions. Opinions on glue on vs screw on. This is 12-12 pitch roof with what I call barn roof steel. Has any one made their own? Thanks ------------- Everything is impossible until someone does it! WD45-trip loader 1947 c w/woods belly mower, 1939 B, #3 sickle mower 1944 B, 2 1948 G's. | guess if I had to put them on, i'd use anything that didn't put any holes in the tin. I would rather have the snow slide off than stay there adding weight to the roof. if it's over a doorway, then maybe add a gutter or a small extra roof for it to slide away from the door farther. I do know some towns require those stops on the roofs, I just don't care fore them...it's just my thoughts right or wrong. |

well I've got them( think of 1" square bars) and they don't work......they actually trap and backup the snow,then when it gets warm enough... freight train time.....2-3-4 minutes of a HUGE avalanche.....OK, it's dozens and dozens of smaller chunks coming off, but it ends up being a huge friggin mini mountain range... I don't bother about the back deck, but I do immediately remove the mess by the front basment door. otherwise it'll become an ICE mountain and impossible to move. ------------- 3 D-14s,A-C forklift, B-112 Kubota BX23S lil' TOOT( The Other Orange Tractor) Never burn your bridges, unless you can walk on water |

The reason I am considering them is that when the snow slides it damages my gutter system. And it's on the north side so the snow builds up. Snow coming off a pitch like have takes no prisoners. ------------- Everything is impossible until someone does it! They get put on all the standing seam roofs we build for the company I work for they are called snow guards. Trying to remember, believe we used the glue type only once. They do work to kept the gutters and snow from coming off in sheets. Typical ones I see is they clamps on the seam with a rail then pieces come down in the middle of panel. |

Are specialized to style of roofing tin. Ours are a simply 'V' form screwed on at intervals thru the Standing rib with Specialized longer screws. Not so much Snow Stops but called "Ice Dams", This is best photo I have of them, put them anywhere have gutters.

Well,,,that just goes to show how much I know bout "Snow Country" stuff,,,,,,  But,,I still cannot see the reasoning behind trapping the snow ON the roof and adding a ton of weight on said roof,,,,? IF there is a city mandate that all roofs have these snow "Traps",,,, then the mayor of said town prolly has a Bro-in-law that owns the company installing those dang things,,,,,

The reason is to stop the snow from coming off in one big sheet. The snow doesn't just melt like on an asphalt roof it slides in big sheets off the steel roof. This is at my cabin and I don't heat it in the winter so the snow builds up anyway. In my situation I don't worry about the weight. ------------- Everything is impossible until someone does it! | You have a 12 12 pitch no snow will stay on that pitch no matter what snow guard you use. The newer hangers we have the glued on plastic ones they at least don't ruin the roof when they get broken off. The older hangers have screwed on steel when they come off they sometimes take part of the roof steel with. The very steep pitched hanger fronts have steel stand offs welded to plates and cross rides between the stand offs they are a 12 12 pitched roof when enough snow builds up it creates a ice dam glacier that when it finally breaks free it come off with enough force to kill a person we had to retro fitt steel awnings over all the hanger entries they are made of 1/8" steel twice the width of the doors and look like they been hammer with a sledge. |

| Our Ice Dams do not attach to the Tin only, they are screwed to the Underlayment I specified UNDER the tin. All the roofs except my barn have 3/4" T&G Underlayment, on the Barn they marked the Trusses/rafters and set them to those when installed. Screws were 1 1/2" long. |
