Almost ready to drop engine back into the 37 WC. Planning to repaint the whole tractor when done and weather clears. Do ya have to put some Orange on the block where it is behind the frame rails or does the spray tend to get in there well enough? I painted the inside of both rails with a rattle can when i had em off and that is probably all they will get. This is also my first try with modern Urethane paint. Nason brand. I have got by with Van Slyke alkyd and hardener in the past. I am going to practice on some small tractor rims that need some John Deere yellow first nad work out the bugs a bit. The lady at paint store actually knew what PO #1 was and was quite helpful. I have had the tractor for probably 10 years now. It had sit inside for almost 20 years as I understand before I got it (you can see cobwebs). It always started easy but wasn't much to look at...  I always tell folks about the cold winter day when it was the only tractor that would start so I used it to move some firewood up to the porch.  ------------- 1951 B, 1937 WC, 1957 D14, -- Thanks and God Bless |

You can't go by what I say at all, because I started repainting one, and a few years later, it still is not done. I to painted the frame rails off. I painted the inside of the frame and then that side of the engine, bell housing, and trans. Then I put on the rail and painted the bolt heads. Rick, I am not the painter but I remember touring the West Allis Tractor Plant with my father and watching them paint. Frankly, they did not do the quality job you are doing. Parts - rails, fenders, and other things - were painted off the tractor but basically the complete tractor was rather quickly painted on the line. Quick job but came out well. Also, not the outstanding quality paint we have today. Put a picture on the site when done. Look forward to seeing you paint the "flat top" WC. The first tractor my father sold. For that reason it is one of my favorites. See you have a B also. Please take good care of my favorite. Good Luck! Bill Long

This has been a long project that I just recently started back into. Thought about leaving the engine on a stand to paint it out of the tractor. All the Sheet metal will have to be painted separately later. Was anxious to get the main parts back together, but sounds like I should wait just a little bit more. I am not used to having a smart phone, will get some pics posted of things I have done to it. I was hoping to get the housings all sealed up before i do more painting and sanding. May just make a cover for the clutch housing and leave engine out for a while longer. I Hope to get the transmission sealed up this week with new seals on PTO housing. There is a seal on the clutch shaft, looks to be OK but I was wondering if I should replace. I think some oil lays in that housing to lube the belt pulley gear. I want to add a belt pulley, this one never had one.  ------------- 1951 B, 1937 WC, 1957 D14, -- Thanks and God Bless |

Rick, Good looking B! Now is for sure the time to replace the seal on the clutch shaft. Any time you can improve the worn clearances in shafts and joints you will be happier with the finished tractor. You dont notice it much when they are tight and work correct. but you sure notice it when they are all sloppy and loosey goosey. Thanks for the updates and good pictures too. I am not a machinist, so I have to take things to a shop or do the best I can to refurb worn areas by hand. I started primer on the WC yesterday. My first big job with automotive grade paints. I tried out everything on a small job and liked the way it went. I like the reduced overspray and fog compared to the old oil based paints. A few pictures of progress. I have a supplied air mask, gloves and full overalls. I bought the basic setup many years ago. The oil based paints were just as scary when you add hardener. Mine was from the website below, there are other brands similar. I started with the cheapest option that used a big floppy hood but found it too awkward to move around in, later I upgraded to a full face mask type. Air to mask is comfortable even in hot weather. I heard complaints about other types heating the air. The pump has lots of capacity for a mask, I only run at about half speed or it sounds like a jet taking off in my mask. It also does not add to air consumption on my compressor. I use a Sharpe Finex HVLP gun fed from my air compressor, not very fancy but has worked well. I got the color on the base unit today. Now just lots of small parts to paint and start assembling. Nason Ful-Thane 2K Urethane with activator  They matched a piece off my 51B pretty well. I will try to see if they keep some sort of code for it on file. I went through almost a whole quart so far. The overspray you see on the floor is from old projects with oil based paint. Rick, Those little pieces, can be a pain. I call them orange wind chimes!:) Awesome job your doing. We never had a WC, but I remember stories from neighbor kids trying to use the hand brakes and steer at the same time. Thanks for the update!
