Anybody interested in Nebraska history ought to pick up the book - Bad Men & Bad Towns - by Wayne C Lee. It starts when Nebraska was a territory and goes thru early statehood. I am only about 1/2 was through it, it's dog gone interesting.

Bet some of his ancestors are mentioned in book though. Always liked local history, especially if it was about someone in my family. Great uncle on Mom's side fought with Teddy Roosevelt at San Juan Hill. From some of the tales I heard from older family members he and most of his brothers loved a good fight.

Yes it mentions a couple of winters where people froze to death, homes being destroyed because of high winds and snow drifting inside the roof less homes.

My dentist came from a Minnesota farm. He said when the winter winds blew, the linoleum flapped on the floor.

I finished the book last night. It is amazing how many guys were in trouble with the law and escaped, and amazing how far some of the law enforcement people went to capture some of these guys concidering the mode of transportation back then. Not one word about old shameless.
