My younger brother says that he has to put his '00 Ranger out of it's/his misery Stern Smile. He wants to stay in the same size of truck but STRICTLY in the used market and said possibly a Toyota Tacoma ?? Any thoughts on what he might look into? Sadly, Dodge is in his "no-fly/buy" zone. I thought perhaps a Nissan Ermm. Seems like some like them. Thanks

Only thing about Toy of Yoda is parts prices. In my opinion, of course. And my wallet just said, "MINE TOO!" So, it's a fact now.

You can get a Ranger 10 years newer than his old one... And there are a few single cabs, but most are supercabs..

My dad was able to find a nice late model ranger  a couple of years ago when a deer hit totaled out the previous one he had. The new one was reasonably low mile Silver extended cab 2 wheel drive. He did get a chrome tube front guard for it, makes it a sharp looking little truck. So far he has told me he has tested the grill guard on a couple deer so far with no damage. Although the one that totaled out his old truck was a big buck dead center hit at highway speed never had time to hit the brakes till after the fact when he was trying to pull over.

If I were to buy a replacement for my Tundra, it would be a Tacoma.  I no longer need the towing capability.  I've owned a couple Mazda in the past that I really liked, but I don't know if they even make them anymore.

We have a 2015 Nissan Frontier with 160000km and it is fine.
Neighbor has one that is 2012 that he treats really hard.Still running but looks like .
Other neighbors have a fleet of Takomas. All the sons and grandsons have them and they like them as well. They put a fortune into aftermarket mods.
We used to have a pair of 00 Nissan Frontiers that ran into the 400000km range then
they blew the right side head gasket. Both trucks within 2 months of each other.Other than that they were great and cheap to run.
We are unusual for here though. Most everybody has 3/4 bushel peecups in this neck of  the woods.

Thank you Steve and all of the other respondents!! Sadly, I omitted that 4x4 is a must for my brother. He has NO regrets with his current buggy, but he's literally run the wheels off of it and not feasible for him to keep dumping $$$ into it. Thanks again !!

Took me 11 months after my mazda b2300 died an economic death, to find a strippy ranger, 2wd single cab, with the small v6, AC and auto tranny.  Wanted a 4 cyl manual with no AC, but hadda take what I could find.  I heard you can get the new rangers in 2wd, single cab, new, but you have to go through fleet sales arm of ford, to do that...Wink

The last Mazda pickups were rebadged Ford Rangers.  I imagine they stopped making both at the same time as I believe they were both made in that plant in SE Michigan.  I've had two Toyota's and have spent almost nothing in parts for them.  Water pump on the '84, nothing on the '04, the last year of the smaller Tacoma's.  Mine is two wheel drive, 4 cylinder, 5 speed.  Great truck, if I need to haul something big I have the 70 series Freightliner.  I'm surprised that they only sell 4X4's in Canada, I'd think there would be a demand for two wheel drives for lots of uses.

I don't claim to know everything like some on here but I can tell you this, I retired 5 years ago and I live on my pension. The last four years I have been a Ford Truck Commercial salesman. That income supports my Allis tractor collecting habit. So I know for a FACT THAT FORD MAKES A 2 WD RANGER!!!!!

Jay the rebates that apply in the USA aren't applicable in Canada. It gets tricky as to what you can and cannot do. My suggestion would be to contact Josh at your local dealer and see if he can't do a dealer trade for you with a US dealer. Anyway good luck to you.

Posted By: jaybmiller
Date Posted: 26 Feb 2020 at 12:23pm
Yeah, I don't do rebates....they're a SCAM up here...
 a $1000 rebate costs you $130 !!! 13%
You pay taxes( HST is 13% ) ON the rebate value...... great to live in Canada, eh !!

Seriously, like I said, 3782 miles per year?!

Of course 85% of all accidents happen 5 miles from home, and since you must not go anywhere else, 100% of your accidents would happen there....hmmm, so, does that prove you’ll have an accident?

Then, YOU, would by a brand new vehicle??? C’mon, I still got $5 on it.

Tbone..
I've only put 100KM on in 20yr, so 5,000KM or  3,000 miles per year. Yeesh, I've been retired for 33 years so no need to drive to work. When I go out, I hit 4-5-7 places in ONE trip...
Brother who test drives cars for a job, sent me the 'build sheets' for his 2 latest rides. The Maserati was $150K , the Navigator $104K , Canucks of course. Dang 4x4 Ranger is $43K !
I still can't understand why no 2WD Rangers.....great sales on your side of the 49th. I've got friends in Holland,MI who are happy to drive my new truck to me this summer. Ain't no way they want to travel the 402 in Winter !

So, like I said, you ain't buying no brand new truck!Wink
Obviously you have access to better information to do your math.  I simply went 2020-1997 = 23.  87,000 / 23 = 3782.6 miles per year.

Ol' 200 and 100 is literally trying to help you out, and you're just shopping in case you total your truck, that would be 1 truck bought from Ford since 23 years gone by.  I'm guessing their marketing studies that show what vehicles should be available probably differ from your tastes a good bit.  Mine too, I happen to like driving a car, not a crossover.  Use a pickup on the farm obviously, but for driving, I prefer the comfort and performance of a car.  Not going to be many cars available soon, just a Focus or Mustang if I recall correctly, and that ain't quite in my wheelhouse anymore.

I just sold my '89 Toyota truck, bought new 30 years ago, only 127,000 miles on it. Been a great little truck, but I've had little use for it the last few years. I put it on Craig's list and had 15 people wanting it, sold to the first guy for the asking price of 1200 bucks. It still ran like a brand new truck.

Yeesh, just been all round the federalguvsite here, turns out I cannot import a 2020 2WD Ranger ! though trying to get a HUMAN to explain why is impossible....
also GM don't make compact pickups anymore, nor does Mazda.... or Toyota..
I'm shaking my head over the fact I cannot buy a 2WD compact pickup in Canada...

NO ! Transport Canada says NO.....there's a list of 'can't imports'....

Asked my brother who test drives / reports for a living.... ONLY 'ranger; size pickup is made by Nissan, named 'Frontier' . Dealer has 2017 ,used on lot..
about 1/4 of the new Navigator he showed up in ( 100K) , and a LOT less than the $160K Maserati  that didn't impress me....(no trailer hitch !)

Steve honestly that hasn't came up. Canada has some different rules. I have a Canadian Co. that buys new trucks from me but they have a place in the US. Trucks are sold and titled to the US location. I don't know if they ever end up in Canada. My guess is they have to buy trucks for the Canadian location from Canada and for the US location from the US. All together different markets and Ford divisions.
