Good afternoon and happy new year. My HD6E front idler wheel flange is worn out.  I'd like to build it back up by stacking soft steel straps, forming and welding one on top of the other, until I'm close enough to the correct profile, then finish it off with weld.  I'm not a trained welder, I've been a farmer for over 40 years and I taught my self to weld both with a stick and wire welder, I've just never tried a repair like this.  I would appreciate any advice on this repair or any other comments and advice on how I can get some more life out of this idler.   I've also attached a pic of one of the guide pins that hold the Idler guide straps in place, are the pins supposed to be tapered like that or is that wear? I plan to replace the upper and lower guide straps.  I like my machine. I want to keep using it.
