The other night I stopped at the scrap yard to poke around a bit. I didn’t come with any power hammer makins but I did come home with a big old floor model Atlas drillpress.👍 it’s been siting a long time but I snuck to the shop and started cleaning. I have every part lose and working. The spindle spins free and the quill tracked smoothe as glass. It needs a motor and I’m going to rig a center pulley to slow it way down.

Thad, you did good! I'm proud of ya! It is always good to save something like that from rusting away. I'm sure Joe will give you a place to store it.

what size is it Thad ?  was it original a 3 phase or single phase motor ? Change speeds with gears/pulleys or variable speed ?

Like them all, but love the "B"s.

Steve it’s a 15” floor press. It uses step pulleys and an adjustable motor plate to tha he speeds. I don’t know about the motor?? I assume a 1hp or less single phase. This isn’t a major industrial press. From what I’ve gathered it’s a model 70 made in the 30’s.

I hope it’s warmer than the last time I went to Nebraska. The ride home in that 55 Ferd was a rough one.😁

You guys just gave me a good idea, I got a a old wood lathe given to me the other day. It has the triple belt drive on the drill but not on the motor. I see those old drill presses at consignment auctions sell cheap. Might figure out how to rig one up to run the lathe.
