OK, for the gurus...
can a regular starter be used as a 'starter-generator'.
I can't see why not,providing it's wired up right but... I gotta ask !

also on my B-112. I have  a lot of generators here, thought I could 'repurpose' them instead of scrapping them.

The generator on my Ditch Witch is also the starter

IIRR, the saying goes, all motors can generate, but not all generators can motor...

or, in simple terms, yes but only if set up right...Wink

No. The issue is, yes, it can but a starter built to just be a starter is not designed for sustained running. it will 'cook' pretty quick

Generators can be but starters I would be questioning of doing it as they run on bushings not bearings - to test a generator you can motor it - on a starter they are made for high torque and intermittent draw as the field winding's  will overheat quickly

arrgh, I re read my post and I said it wrong...sigh..
I MEANT to say I have a lot of GENERATORS, and wondered if I could use them and 'starter-generators' like on the B-112 I have( and other graden tractors).
sigh, getting old I guess

again, Jay in theory, yes, but a generator will not have as high of torque, and will not put up with high current draw.
