Subject: After We're Gone.....

Yeah, I was doing a lot of thinking about this the other day,,,,,,
We've all watched someone on here just up and disappear.  Some only stay for a few days, until they get an answer to whatever is wrong that they need fixed.  Then there are a bunch of us that are on all the time and keep everyone, who is just sitting in the sidelines, laughing and enjoying life.
But what happens when we take that last tractor ride?
I got to thinking that there should be a spot in our 'Profile' where we could put a next of kin to get ahold of and see where so-and-so is at.
There are a LOT of guys that are so full of knowledge that we fall back on so often and never think about 'what if'?....
Some times someone who knew them personally will hear or see an Obit in the paper, buy what about the lone soles that don't live close or aren't close friends with us on here?
I think it's a good idea and I'd give my daughters & sons info for someone to contact them to ask if I'm in the hospital, dead or,,,,,,,,,,, God forbid,,,,,,,,,got rid of all my Allis stuff.
I know there are a lot of guys registered who don't give out any info and I often wonder why?
It could be information that only the admin could get at if you're thinking about privacy..... thoughts?
What do you think guys & girls?  Would you do this?

We have Caller ID and a answer machine. We screen the calls first with Caller ID, then listen to to the answer machine for a message. If we know the number or recognize the caller we will pick up call or call back if we did not catch the call. Lots of people do not leave a message (especially sales). If a message is left it needs to be clear as to the purpose. I'm sure a lot of people do this, and might not understand the nature of the call (forum member or other). My mother would never remember about the forum (like anyone would call anyways). This is a good idea worth pursuing and fine tuning for best results.

Ted there is a old saying, "The good die young"  Well I suspect you will be around for quite some time, now on the other hand I need to be careful, I could go any day.

Ted, I think another option would be to leave a letter or instruction for next of kin on what to do when you are incapacitated or pass on and include instructions on how to log on to the Forum under your user name/pswd and they could inform everyone that way. Not as many privacy issues and they might even decide to join the Forum later on. Just a thought.

This post doesn't really pertain to me, cause no one on here would really care if something happened to me!

Maybe put a place on here to delete your account?

There should be some way to let the forum know.  I knew a guy in SE SD and all the sudden he was gone.  It was a long time before I finally found out that he had passed.  That was back on the old forum.  He never got to see this fancy new forum!  Anyway I thought about leaving a note for my son  to come on and post what happened.

Ted,
Your doing too much thinkin!
I have the list made for the auctioneer. Figured that was more important than a headstone!:) It should be a good auction. Most of my tractors have parts on them from a lot of you guys too!
Maybe I should leave instructions to let you guys know?? Naaa, nobody really cares. And all those good guys have to go first. So my fingers will be worn to the nub by the time they are all gone!
Regards,
 Chris

I second that Thad. Have always enjoyed your posts John.

Ted is on to something here, not sure how to go forward with it. I've not met a lot of you in person but do consider a lot of you friends none the less and it would be nice to keep track of each other.

I agree we need something like what is being suggested, if for no reason then to know there are AC's available.  Maybe all we have to do is list the name of the auction company we decide to call our estate auction...

I agree with this.  This came to me this past week When Rick Maldeney (See his obit in the Show & Event for the Swap Meet) passed, and his wife called me for help.  She was able to get into his e-mail, but not the forum.

In this world of passwords for everything, a list of logins / passwords to everything would help spouse and next of kin.

Written instructions like "chaskaduo" posted is ideal.  We just need to keep it updated if we change passwords or our user name like "shamless" does.  Poke Poke.

I printed the above on posting in the forum for my sister with my user name and password. She's pretty computer savvy already, she has a smartphone ect, I've avoided one like the plague. Anyhow if there seems to be strange posts on here from me, I plead the fifth and blame her (she's Messing with me).

john(MI) QUOTE - "Maybe put a place on here to delete your account?"
John, deleting an account would remove all pictures and possibly screw up the whole system, as in the threads all ready established would be altered by the disappearance of the deleted posts...  Look what happened when photobucket decided to hold your pictures hostage till you paid them and then they would return the right to you for that monthly fee and unblock your pics... mass amount of pics disappeared from the forum.
So... maybe do this, In the members list, Simply have a pop up box with how that member should be listed, As in - account cancelled by member- , -deceased- , account dormant.
Or simply have a members deceased section... where another member can mark on the list who is deceased and who posted it so it can be verified by others.  and in the actual forum members list, an asterisk is applied.

It would be nice if some one would close the account with an obit or there was a place to check, [] deceased, and a place for a date too.

John, I disagree with a lot of what you say, you pissed me off several times.....gees, that describes half my family, and I still love them!

Yes John, I would be saddened if you were to depart. I have said it on here before, life would be very boring if we all agreed all the time! Hang in there cupcake, I enjoy your company

Ted does make a good point.....as a competitive military shooter, I've written down names of those people that I trust to assist my wife in dispersing my match grade 'tools'. The same could be true with ACs. Although never having personally met them, I can already leave a note to my wife that she can contact Lon or Mike (mdm) if something happen to me. (Gut feeling tells me they're good people)(also depends on me finding my first AC.....might pull the trigger this weekend!) So although the forum is one thing, tending to the physical stuff is important too. An estate representative, one could go to social media sites and forums (usually found in 'Favorites' ) and post obits.
