So, while I have down sized and had gotten rid of all of my Allis's, and acquired a couple more JD's, I was in need of a replacement for my broke down plow truck.  

I did go to an auction this weekend and found this.  Whomever did that cab did a great job.  Needs a couple finishing touches and it will be sweat.  Even has a stereo with dual speakers.

My Western plow will go right on.  I plow my drive, shop and church (free) and we will be giving this a try.

As an aside, I was looking for a tractor to swing a tiller, and this should work great.

Its a 1958 and will know more when she gets here tomorrow. No, heater but my buddy has a heater unit from a cube truck that will work fine when I get it painted up and such.

Looks awesome!! Yes a little jealous here in a good way though

I hope to someday have a nice D-17 snap coupler, series 3 or 4 maybe with good hydraulics and possibly a heat houser to help when plowing snow! Your rig looks great for winter! Very nice!! Great tires too on it they look new!

Very nice looking outfit !!  Someone put lots of  time into that.   I would install a liner in the cab for sound as well as heat retention, and yes a heater.  Tire chains and you will be the envy of all of us.

Got it home.  Too late for pics.  It does have a headliner, and side insulation (padding).  The cab is 1/4 inch angle iron, back to back in some locations.  Whomever built it did a nice job.  The only thing I would have done different is the glass.  He cut the glass about a half inch bigger all around and then glued it to the metal with black windshield adhesive.  One already was out, but the others are holding.  I might make some tabs to put around the glass as a safety factor.  Also, you can see the glue through the glass and it looks bad.  I may paint that edge like they do in modern cars to hide that.

The rear tread is 7'2", and my plow is a 7'6", so I may have to find a 9 footer, LOL..

And a 8 foot tiller in the spring.

Cant shorten the rear wheel spacing, cause of the nice cab.  Plenty  of room for us XXL guys.

Hopefully some pics this week when I get to work on it.

That’s a really sharp D-17. Do you think it had a 2 row corn picker on it at some point? Going by the mesh wire air cleaner. Sharp cab.

As you can see it still has numbers on the rear tire tread.  I did check and the rears are not loaded, so I will make a weight box for the back and I have two 500 pound weights I can use for ballast.

Looks like somebody had access to a pretty nice fab shop. Cant tell from the pics, but the cut lines look super straight. Maybe a laser or plasma table?

if not for the trouble,you could get some rubber for glass and reduce the existing glass size to fit ,then install it like factory stuff.

That my friend is the correct answer.  But, probably not going to happen until I have one winter under my belt to see how this thing works out.

With a heater, it should work well in the winter. With all that glass, it looks like it could be a bit warm in the summer!

Looks like a nice unit and would work great for your driveway. If you are into a parking lot a pickup would move more snow and much faster. Maybe a blower on the back if you have room to blow the snow.

That is a nice looking tractor.  I don't know why you couldn't put covers over the engine and direct that heat back to the cab.  My little case uses the heat from the engiine and it doesn't have covers.  I only need a jacket going to and from the barn when I blow snow and usually unzip it as soon as I start working.

A guy that used to be on here, Jon, from IN had one that looked like that for sale for quite a while.  I wonder if that's where it ended up?

So, I posted some pics.  GM alternator, however, not a one wire.  Frame on side of tractor looks like for a Jerry can or another battery.  Right grill needs some work.  Under cab support. Couple shots of interior of cab.  Rear valve stem corrosion, tires are NOT loaded, I will get some silver PR15 and touch up.  Rear end, not sure whats Allis and whats not.  Category 1 on the arms which I use, however link is category 2.  Gas gauge is corroded and doesn't work.  Gauges are junk.

I did adjust the carb and it runs pretty smooth.  The monkeys at the auction went banana's on it when it apparently ran out of fuel, all thinking they knew what was wrong.  I put a gallon of gas in it and it fired right up. 

Its charging and is 12V positive ground.  Which will help with the plow hookup.

The exhaust manifold is shot where the muffler threads in.  Will have to get a new one.

I do like the pin mount plow mount.

Also, the power director locks to the back for low, but does not lock to the front.  And, it really doesn't disengage in the middle like the book tells me it should.  I have the service manual for it and will have to see if I can adjust it.

Power director is new to me.  I'll run it by my buddy, he's all things Allis, when he comes around again.

If I find a comfortable snow plow speed, either in low range or high range, is it ok to leave it in either low or high range all the time?  Thanks

Are you sure it's positive ground? It's possible, but not very common with an alternator. Also, I see you have a radio. Most radios require negative ground.

The little round knob is on the snap coupler release lever. That lever pulls back to remove the drawbar, which enables you to mount other snap coupler equipment. You won't need that if you are just using three point mounted equipment. The power director lever should lock in both high and low positions. The power director clutches run in oil, so when the oil is cold, the clutches drag in neutral, like a motorcycle clutch. Usually gets better when warmed up. If you need a slower travel speed, the power director can be slipped for long periods without damaging anything.

Whoops, I meant to say Negative ground.  Opposite of what its supposed to be.

had a very nice cab for a 45, not sure who made it thought I was going to have to send it to china, had a guy from Tennessee come to get it and while loading found it had metal side covers for engine which made a heat houser for it and they mated up with removable floorboard covers for the heat to come in.If I fed in the rain or plowed snow seemed like a $100 would be a bargain to stay warm and dry

All that glitters is not gold.

Exhaust manifold was cracked and shot, muffler bottom was rotted through.  New manifold and muffler.

Carb is a new replacement, however, a universal.  The throttle shaft is tight against the block.  Governor linkage was to clubby and hit the choke arm which is also clubby.  10 pounds in a 5 pound bag.

Will need to rework the throttle.  Good time to hook up a foot throttle for snow plowing.

Have plow hanging on it, net to wire and plumb that up.

Don't know what the point of the picture is, but as long as that throttle shaft isn't rubbing on the engine block, it won't hurt anything.

Battery pan in battery box was rusted out.  Have the new pan being fabricated.  New box costs $180.  I will post pics when I get the "fixed" battery box back from powder coater.

The throttle shaft is buried into the engine block as seen in the picture(s).  Thats the issue.  Also, the universal arm was loose as a goose.

Put blade on front, add rear blade on 3 point. Will add weight to back tires and will come in handy for cleaning up snow. Been doing it for years. Blizzards will take off rear blade and put on snowblower. Chains on tires can be optional! FUN😁

That is a Full Vision cab... it's identical to the unit I installed on my WD project tractor, and I have a second one, disassembled, in my barn.

The reason it appears slightly 'homemade', is because the hinges have been replaced with door hinges, and the rear windows have been replaced with RV/school bus type 'sliders'... neither being 'bad' mods, but the individual who did this, was clearly NOT the same guy who modified the radiator shell to provide clearance for the alternator...

But it's a sweet setup...  One of these days, I need to get my WD project back into the shop and get going on it... obviously, it won't be ready for THIS winter... (sigh)...

I wanted to get it together to see if it would work for me.  It did. So far.  

I do not have heat in the cab yet and one window was out.  It was around 20 degrees out and it was plenty comfortable.  The seat is nice, except at road speed which is a little harsh.  Might get a suspension seat from my cousin.  Depends on height.

I plowed the church today and it took 1 hour.  It usually took about 45 minutes with my pickup.  Both at my leisure, not for time.  So, its good enough for sure.  In third gear high range on the power director.  Did not spin a tire, however, snow was not of the wet variety.  Also, the transmission noises have seem to quiet a little bit, maybe because everything is getting lubed now.  I still think I may need a new input shaft bearing.  Tranny sings a little until I push the clutch in.  Sounding better the more I use it, but, a bearing is a bearing and it probably need a new one.

It has a 7'6" Western old cable style, with new motor and brand new cables.  I have new hoses in the shed from about 25 years ago that will go on when the new couplers get here.

I will be looking for a 9' old style blade, or newer if it fits the frame, and then I will be in high cotton.

Rain tomorrow night.....

Well Carl, that'll be a big help.....the ground is all frozen so I hope it doesn't rain too much.  We sure don't need that!!

The add ons are SO WELL done and the basics on the tractor have been let go.  I just don't understand that..  If you go the route of putting in the correct rubber gaskets, make sure you have whomever cuts the glass, that they leave a 1/4" gap between the gasket and the glass.  It needs the room to move to keep from breaking.  Unlike a car that's pretty solid, these bend in all directions and thus need to move.  I learned that years ago when I worked for Auto-Glass.

you can put some pro-wings; on the snow plow ' that will make it a little over 9 feet. useing the same 7 1/2 foot plow. will work alot better' keeps the snow in the blade' don't run off as bad.

The pro wings are a little pricey. My niece's husband has a steel shop and makes wings. I have not seen his kit yet so if they look good and work I will post a picture. I am thinking that holding some of the snow will help. Just want to be able to roll it to one side also.

Update

Made a weight box for the back.  Made it to hold two 500 lb weights.  Gave it a try and while traction improved a bunch (was not too bad before, just on ice) it will push sideways if plow angled and a heavy push.

Overengineered.

Will try one 500 pounder tomorrow.

Otherwise, plow set-up is working great.  Next, I'm going to work on an foot throttle.  Am thinking of a decelerator like on a dozer, with the clutch.  I.e., when you push in the clutch the motor goes to idle or thereabouts.

Basically, motor revs unecesarily when changing from forward to reverse, etc.  Just  a thought for now.

500 pounds.  Will make two wood blocks to take up space on each side of weight.  Powder coat this summer.  Might engineer a better hold down by then.

I cant help but throw this out there. The throttle shaft is too long, but its a universal fit style, hence the threads all the way to the end of the shaft. Why don't you get out the ole hacksaw and shorten the end of the shaft? You shouldn't ever need the end there.

That is already done.  Plus, the choke rod was upside down.  Fixed that too.  I'll get a pic of the fix..
