It was fun seeing the look on my son's face the last three times we stopped to get fuel or just to let this old man rest from the long ride home and have guys come over to look at his picker/tractor on his big trailer tell him story's about how they used to pick corn with one just like his. He even met up with a member of the Mo state AC club at the last fuel stop after he spotted the old rig headed North on I-49. So looks like we are going to start working on the old WD ASAP. so she can make to the next show, that's less that one month away. He is going to do the work so all I need to do is watch him bring one back to life.

Bob unloaded the old WD/33 picker off the trailer around 10:AM and just before 5:PM he had the WD running like a top and the picker ready to pick corn after a 20+ year sleep in the back of a old barn. Maybe he will post some pics of his fine work. He did a full tune-up, changed the fuel tank and carb with good loaner parts from me and will rebuild the carb and run the tank on my tank cleaner rebuild the air cleaner and a short list of new up-dates I think someone talked him into doing (I don't know just who might be behind all the updates) LOL So I'm thinking the picker will make the show this month like he hoped to. I spent some time today just sitting back and watched him work on it. I do know he had a big time driving the rig around and around the barn and shop playing with his new to him toys, just like a little kid and I had a big smile on my face seeing him play! So all in all it was a grand day at my shop today!!!!!!

Still need to get the right tires, and rims on it. Have to grease and change all the little gear boxes oil on the picker. (There are several) but the picker does work. I cant say im good. But i did get real lucky. Im super excited to get this thing in the field this fall and pick some corn. Im just as excited to try to get to a show with it later this month. Thanks to my dad for keeping the chair held down. Lmao

That's what the hand clutch is for! Seriously, I think it would be fun to run it through some of today's corn.

The right tire was already on the tractor. The left tire had to be turned around to keep it from hitting the bar inside of the picker. I have the correct tires and wheels. Thats the next project.

My uncles have some 300 bushel corn. Hes going to let me bail off in it. Pictures will be taken when i do

I always thought those were really cool and wanted one, but I passed on the opportunity once. I think my WD45 had a picker on it once. It had the V belt pulley on it, and I can't think of anything else it would've been for.

Chris I didn't like the old junk tires and wheels that where on the old WD when he picked it up and Bob was at work so the old man made the call to help him out and change them out with a set just laying around here.
Looks like Bob is going to be at work again today and that will give me one more day to work (play) on his picker, let's see just what I can fix for him with some parts I might find in the parts trailer. lol

It picks corn by the ear, does not shell it. You stored it in a corn crib, then had it ground it whole, as needed, cob and all.
Fed mostly to dairy cows.

Nice! Part of me is sad we had to get rid of grandpa's old mounted picker and the all crop 66 many moon ago but I couldn't let them sit out and couldn't build a shed just to house them (and repair them). Love seeing this old stuff saved from the scrap bin!

Thanks for all the replies. I have to admit something. I ran across some things that very few people have seen since the mid to late 80's. Not only do i have a mounted corn picker on a tractor. But i also have the operators manual, factory Allis Chalmers service and set up manual, parts manual, but i happen to have a copy of some of the nicest documents know to man for a model 33 picker and a model 17 picker.

Now if you want to see what they are. I will have them on display for the only time of the year for about 15 to 20 mins. Then they are going to get put away. Just a little hint. They have a stamp on them from 1958. Bobby

Today dad and I took the elevator off my picker. Cleaned all the mouse nests and crap out of the elevator. Did some body work on the elevator. Replaced the elevator chain paddles. Put the elevator back on the picker. Now if i can get my new tires on my wagon, I'll be ready to pick corn this week. I sure would like to pick a wagon load of corn to take to the show this next weekend. Bobby

have to say back two months ago when Bob said he'd like to have something diff from all the same stuff you see at shows and I said get a mounted corn picker never dreamed we might find a good picker that can still work (more or less). I think Bob is happy with this unit.

Bob, Don,
Thanks for taking and posting! I had never seen one of these in operation! I kept thinking, raise the head! raise the head! Then realized that I don't think you can raise the head on these? Is that correct? I assume the corn rows are not the right spacing for running two rows??
You guys have done a great job getting this picker and tractor working in a short time!
Bob, hows that hand clutch working?
Regards,
 Chris

There's a funny little story behind picking some corn yesterday, I called Bob to see if he was OK with me getting some picked for a display for the wife to-be and Bobby asked me to hold-on and he'd be right over to run it too. lol
The fan belt was unhooked to the blowers (it was removed to make repairs) and let a lot of trash go into the wagon but we knew that was going to happen, this was more to play that to pick for real. It will get a real work-out when the corn is ready in two or three weeks.

Today i took my tractor and picker out and picked some 250+ bushel corn. Heres a video of todays activities. I had 2 farmers that farm a lot of ground stop and watch my picker in action. One had to have his combine in the picture with the tractor and picker. Bobby
