Working on a new patio and got into the satellite TV cable and cut it. Wife calls dish net and they say two weeks to get here and fix,, grr, doesn't bother me but makes wife hard to get along with. So I go to town and get a couple cooax connectors, and installed them per instructions so she could have TV until they get here to install new cable but the TV still says no signal? Cable isn't cut anywhere else and I am certain that I installed the ends correctly, I cut them off an did it twice. We rebooted the system several times to no avail, anyone with knowledge of these things know what is going on? Thanks!! Would help life at home for 14 days

I went through that before. One of the ground strands (wire wrapped sheathing under the outer cover) was touching the copper signal wire when putting the connector on.
I completely understand the implications of not having the creature comforts the 'other one' needs to survive. That's all I have to offer.

prob what fixer said.
So how far is it from the dish to the plug in at the house? if close like mine you could just get a roll of ready made coax and throw it above ground for an interim

I second the idea of buying a new cable and running it from your receiver out to the grounding bar. Lots of people don't realize that every connection causes signal loss. And as someone mentioned earlier, not all coax splices are successful.
How long of a run are you needing? Amazon is listing a 50-foot run quad-shielded with terminations already applied shipped to your door for $16 (if you are an Amazon Prime member).

I'll make the assumption that there's a power supply (aka Wallwart) feeding power to the dish, if so, see if the 'power on LED' is on. If not, disconnect the coax to it, pull wallwart out of recptacle, count 10 steamboats, plug wallwart into receptacle. does the LED come on ? If so...reconnect coax. does the LED stay on " If so...should have TV. If the LED goes off, cable is shorted, killng wallwart....find short, repair, go through all this again....

On mine there is a section in the menu for maintenance. if I remember correctly there is a choice to test the switch. run that test. if there is a selection for signal check to see what you are getting from each lnb or whatever they call them nowadays.
Too many connections can cause problems can cause signal loss but one should not be that extreme. if you go with the new cable route, the choice cable is RG6 if I'm not mistaken. There are a couple different impedance cable choices. I believe you need 75 ohm cable.
It's been a while since I messed with this stuff so I may be incorrect on some of it. also if there's a radio shack in the neighborhood they will have the cable. if not, you can probably order from Walmart to pick to in the store and get it quicker then Ebay or amazon.
Another option is to pick up an on air antenna for the local channels to appease her during the week. most big box have them in the store.

I know what you mean about appeasing the other half. Mine discovered there was the Soap Channel available so she added it to our subscription. So now I get tortured with the Young and the Restless almost nightly. UGH! A total waste of electricity and hours on the TV...

Wanting 2 weeks off the bill? Now that’s funny!! I don’t care who you are

The lru is powered by the reciever. Your reviever should be pushing power to the dish trough thur the coax. The signal then comes back to a blocking diode at the reciver. Check for power at the coax. If dosent have power thelru wont send any signal back. Youhave to have a good connection on both vanle ends and the spli you added. You probaly dont. Ive bent the conductor to get signal where it goes into the splice about 50 % of the ones i got from walmart were defective.
