Being in my sixties is getting OLD but have been seeing the signs all over the STL Mid MO, IL/MO two state region, "Drivers Wanted". Have been told on other boards, not enough money, too much time away from home yada yada yada, just lame excuse on excuse. Currently Menard's is offering $1500/week for flatbed drivers, heard Lowes offering nearly the same. Woody Bogler Trucking is pushing higher rates and making bonus for making time less damage is becoming a standard among trucking companies. Problem is, no one is coming thru the doors.

We have around ten to twelve years before this gets to critical mass, when the current mid age(forties) drivers reach that point that many of us are, getting too old to continue and looking to retire. Then what, robot trucks? Robot warehouses, robot picking machines? Are coming fast on a critical junction where the products we Need everyday will not be available as no way to get them supplier to stores. Then what.

Well Dave, the driver pool just sucks, or stinks. Why? Because the labor force is filled with dead heads, dope heads who don't know which end of the pencil to write with. And they don't care. Oh, I forgot, the pay sucks too. I know there are some good paying driving jobs out there, but entry level pay is not good at all, so why would someone who has good skills and intelligence want a job like that? But I will admit to being jaded after driving many years and seeing all the poo that is involved in driving. I was fortunate in that I could switch from driving to mechanic on trucks and trailers and heavy equipment, tractors etc. I agree Darrel, there are a lot of jobs out there, good ones, but who is going to get off there duff and get there hands dirty?

I've got a Class A, an would love a driving job cause I'm 4 years short of 62. My problem iz i can't get a medical card. Doc says I say huh? to much. He stood behind me an whispered "you're a dipchit" behind my back and when I couldn't say what he had said I failed.

The next doctor yelled, "ARE YA HARD OF HEARIN?" of course I said no, an he passed me.

After thet last medical card expired in 2012, I just plain azz didn't give a chit no more an never bothered to get one. I never crossed state lines and never left the 4 county area anyway.

It is real hard for me to find "good" part time help in the fertilizer business. No one wants to work.
