Am removing a 670I engine from a 8070 AC tractor. Service manual says very little about the removal. Split the tractor and attached the gantry crane to the engine but the front engine mounts that bolt to the inside of the frame rails inhibit picking them  motor straight up. Do I need to remove one of the frame rails to get the mounts to clear the rails? Tried moving the engine rearward inside the frame rails but the oil pan hits the frame rail where it bolts to the transmission. Any suggestions?

We just did ours, we loosened the right rail from the front bolster and rolled the front end forward. We also took the rails loose at the bell housing/transmission. Twisted off one bolt - used a 3/4 drive breaker bar and a 4' pipe to break the bolts loose. That part wasn't too bad, dropping the tanks full of fuel to get the bolts out of the back of the rails was a pain!

Thanks for the reply. I did the same with loosening the left frame rail and then.re-rigged.my hoist so I cojld drop the.front.of the.engine and raise the rear to clear both frame rails.

What are you using for an engine stand?

We used a cherry picker, but it was all it wanted. I would use a gantry with a chain fall if we had one.
