I have a Gleaner N7.  Does anyone know the difference between processor 1, processor 2, and processor 3 cylinder cages?  Are they interchangeable?  My S/N is 1263H.  Thanks.

An N-7 is a P-1 processor. The early P-3's were in the very late R-60's and some may have referred to them as a P-2.     R-40/R50 were the first P-3's.

Will the P-3 retrofit in the N-7?  What are the differences between the three processors?

The whole complete P-3 processor into an N-7 ?? Nope.  You can install a P-3 rotor and helical bars, but the P-3 concave is a no-go. What are you trying to do?? What crops are you going to harvest?? Have you even used this combine yet ?? There are thousands of N-series P-1 processors that do a fine job of harvesting with a few changes made to them.

In fact, how do you know there haven't been changes already made to your P-1 processor ?????????????    Pictures would be helpful.........

I've had the N7 for many years.  Corn, beans and wheat are the crops I grow.  The past two years I have experienced excessive cracked grain.  Rotor speed seems to have little or no effect.  Concave clearance does not cure the problem.  I have put in new rotor cylinder bars and new accelerator rolls. Also, I have removed all cage cover plates.  What about the helical bars?  How does one determine when they are worn out or need replacement?  Would replacement of the concave be necessary?  Overall, it has been an excellent combine, Why has this become a problem the past two years?

I can almost assure you that the helical bars are worn out. The time to have changed them was when you pulled the rotor to replace the rotor/cylinder bars. If you had an N-5, you'd have known they were worn out by the engine not having enough HP. The mighty N-7 engine has enough grunt to keep things going even when they are worn out. Add two extra rows of helicals over the top of the rear feed chain inlet while you're in there.

Year ago we had a man in Southern Iowa that built a separator 1" x  1- 1/4" cage for our '84 N6. He also told us to get the cylinder bar spokes from a R50. They were supposed to be a little smaller and he shimmed every other bar so it gave us a high/low bar effect. Was told it would help with cracking grain, breaking cob, and separation. Can't say how much it helped, but it worked OK.

It's a great engine!  Never lacked power which certainly could cause one to overlook other problems.  Thanks to all for the info.  I'm thinking that I'll replace the cage with a salvaged one with chrome helical bars.  Also, I'll add the two extra bars.  The cage has issues at the left discharge area.

How many hours do you have on your 7? Does it use much oil?

Contact C Trimpe Inc in Seymour, Indiana, they make the bars with tungsten carbide, it is way harder than chrome and they put it on about 100 times thicker that the chrome, al for about 1/4 of the price.  I have three times as many hours on their bars as a set of chrome ones from gleaner lasted me in the past

You might also look at channel iron ones as well. I understand they grip the straw better.

There was a kit to line up the helicals in a continuous auger helix. Lowen or Sunnybrook also made shims to go under the helical to make them more aggressive. The helicals can also be reversed in some location to give a new edge. I really am an advocate for shimming of the helicals and the alignment kit. . It is like the steep pitch helicals for the P3/// As Doc states there are many little items one can do the P1 that will really improve the capacity and reduce hp... and I also agree that the worn helicals are the issue on cracked grain. You are grinding the material out rather than flowing it out.
