I have a 4 bolt wide front for my wd45. I want to replace the output seal. I am having trouble getting the gear off of the output shaft. It appears to be keyed with a press fit. I tried a gear puller but it doesn't budge. Any suggestions?

When I did mine about 8 years ago, I had to put it in a press and push the shaft out of the gear.

The problem with pressing is I don't know how to get past the stop welded to the gear. I'm thinking about packing the gearbox full of grease instead.

I don't remember about the stop. I just remember pulling it all part, not being able to get the gear off, then pressing the shaft out. I had everything completely out of the gearbox

The grease certainly not leak out as fast, but it will take a bunch of it. Probably be best to use that old ropey stuff we used to use in the old days. After all you're not going into a corner at 200 MPH.

My CA was a bit sloppy and had grease in it. I took it all apart, replaced seals and bearings and put gear lube back in. It all leaked out the bottom in a years time, so I filled it with grease. Cornhead grease would be a good choice IMO.
