Hello all,

As I stated in a post last week I'm new to the Allis community so please bear with me. I have a 1950's Allis Chalmers WD

I'm planning on changing the trans/pto fluid today. Is the dipstick on the left side for the trans? I've also read that there are 3 drain plugs, is this true? Lastly should I be using 80w90 gear oil? If so how much? I've tried finding this info and diagrams online but haven't had much luck.
Please correct me if I'm wrong about any of this.

The dipstick is for the hydraulics. Doesn't take a lot of oil. I think the book calls for non detergent 20 weight but I use a good quality non foaming trans-hydraulic oil. Hy-Tran or something like that.

The transmission and hand clutch run together and usually use an 80-90 weight but some use the same universal trans-hydraulic oil. Leaks will show up easier with the lighter hydraulic oil. To check the transmission oil level there are two plugs on the left side back from the hydraulic dipstick. Level should be filled until oil spills out he plugs. They run together but use two plugs to fill because oil has to run through a bearing to level out so faster to fill from each plug. Thats my thoughts on it. Thinking more on it the larger plug is where you'd fill from until oil spills out the smaller plug.

To drain there is a plug at the bottom of the pto housing and one under the rearend. Another under the hydraulic reservoir for the hydraulics if memory serves me.
