| Unless you know you have an injector problem, leave them alone. If they've been in there for 30 yrs/5000 hrs, you might loosen up the cooper tube in the cylinder head by wrestling with them. Then, you get to pull the cylinder head. |

the injectors are pretty simple, just unhook both pressure and return lines and with two hook bars one under each bolt tab and gently but firmly pry at the same time, as for the injection pump you will need to time the pump to engine before removal, there is a little plate on the side of pump with two flat head screws, remove that, some diesel fuel will run out but that's normal. there will be a stationary line and a line on the cam ring, rotate motor till lines are the same. then remove the small round cover on timing cover and unbolt the pump drive gear (take care and don't drop screws down in the timing gears) then remove pump mounting bolts from in there as well, remove all lines and linkages prior to this step, its pretty straight forward, hope this helps ------------- 1-B's, 2-C, 2-CA's,2-WF, 1-WC,1-G, 3-WD's, 2-WD45, 1-RC, 1-D17 Diesel, 1-D14, 2-D15,1-D17 row crop,1-D19 gas and All Crop 40,60,66,72,90 and 100 |

Pressure wash everything before you start more for reassembly than taking it apart. Take some pictures. I've been told those injection pumps do not really go bad. But from experience I've also seen what poor fuel filter maintenance can do. When I rebuilt my 7020 engine, the injection pump and injectors came out pretty easy. I used the I & T shop manual (AC202 I think), thought hard about it, and took good notes (including making my own timing marks with paint marker). The only reason I took the pump in was because it was leaking fuel out of the throttle linkage. Hope that helps. Alex

The DM pump is a very dependable, long lasting pump. However, with today's fuels, and sitting around, they tend to get gummed up and won't start, and the orings get hard and start leaking. my DM pump on a 7040 was all gummedup from sitting plungers were stuck I put all new seals in it I thought every thing was alright put it on the tractor but can't get fuel in the pump i'm stumpt. any ideas ? ------------- turbocharged |

Here is what has worked for me on the injectors. First I tear off the old dust shield, blow it off around the injector then spray penetrating oil around it. LET it set and work in. I made a tool to go on my small slide hammer to pull the injector STRAIGHT out(do not turn). Welded a nut on a piece of metal I had at the time, I think it was a 9/16 nut? DO NOT rotate the injector that will probably guarantee a leak at the tube. I just tap out the injector a little at a time, if it is stuck add more penetrating oil and work on the next one. You will have to pull off the center sheet metal. This is what a new tube looks like installed. Top side.  Bottom side.  The bottom side is just a crimp fitting. This is what I have run into, someone else may have a better idea?
