I know this isn't "factory" but it is going to be user friendly. I finally have some time to work on the 53 WD that I grew up on. Dad and Uncle Kenny bought this tractor used from the Finlyn Dyer estate the year I was born, 1966, I've always known the tractor as Finlyn.

Anyway, I've been working on refurbishing her for about five years now. More looking, wondering and pondering for the past couple of years.

I wanted to be able to access the ps resevoir easily, but have also seen torch cut hoods with 8" holes in them.

I made my own mount for the tank. I used a spacer under the valve cover so the cover and gasket would not be compromised. Then welded part of a 3/4" coupler in the cap of the resivoir to fit the spare dipstick I had out of a CA rearend. That worked perfectly, just needed to add to the the length of the stick.

When cutting the hole in the hood, I started small and got a pilot hole and then finished with the plasma cutter.

Slowly but surly the ol gal is coming together. I will post pics of before and after, if I ever get to "after".
Thanks for looking.

I think you did a really good job on it. Looks factory and I wouldn't be ashamed.

I too like it, a lot. My 45 narrow front may get that mod. It currently has the reservoir mounted on the frame rail. One of those previous owner things. Would like to get it up on the valve cover but it leeks just enough I never have felt confident moving it. I have gotten the leaks slowed way down but still like to be able to keep an eye on it without pulling the hood.

I like it too.  Mine is under the hood, so I have to take it off to check and fill it.  This would make it a LOT easier.
Leon, you are doing a GREAT job.  Keep it up and keep the pics coming!
