Saw a post on Facebook that Dale Haymaker has a blood clot in his leg, just though I would post the info so you all can take appropriate action.

Oh Geez....Prayers for Dale on a recovery, and prayers for you, Ted! Hope that clot don't move!
What causes these things, anyway?

I'm not a doctor nor do I play one on TV but they can be caused by high blood pressure and a weak blood vessel, which is painful or a weak artery which is even more serious.

As I teach my sonography (ultrasound) students, leg blood cots are primarily due to something called Virchow's Triad which consists of these items:
1)  Hypercoagulability....a blood clotting deficiency in your blood that causes the blood to clot quicker than it should.  This is usually genetic.
2)  Blood stasis--blood will clot if you have long periods of immobility, like a long airplane ride or sitting in front of the TV watching my Packers get destroyed by the Falcons.
3)  Injury to the vessel...a blow to the leg by a wicked slap shot or a wrench slipping off trying to loosen rusted bolts.  Clots almost always form in the veins...arterial ones are rare because blood can sit in veins longer and form a clot.

Ultrasound is really good at finding these clots.  Old clots usually don't present a problem as they don't move...it is those new fresh clots that will break off and move into your lungs causing a pulmonary embolism....that's bad.

Good luck and God Bless to Dale,  and be sure to take your anticoagulation medicine!

Thanks for all of the concern. A bout 2 weeks ago my right foot and leg was swollen up quite a bit, I went to the doctor, she said I had a blood clot. They took all kinds of X-rays, blood tests and other tests. They put me on a blood thinner, the swelling has gone down and everything seems to be OK now. Dale

Sorry to hear about this Dale. My internet box went down a week ago and the service tech just got here and changed out the modem. Sure hope the blood thinner works. I was on one for two years after developing a clot in my left calf area. It finally dissolved and I'm off the thinner now. Hope yours does as well. Prayers from Louisiana. God Bless.
