need some help. right break needs adjusted. ive been told i have to adjust bottom and top, that the bolt sticking out bottom adjust bottom band. so do i just crank both down then back them off a quarter turn? just curious how to do it. dozer has brand new pads in it from previous owner but right side doesnt lock up like left side.

per the book, the brakes should have 1-3/4 to 2" of free travel at the pedal. adjust the top adjuster until tight then back off 2 turns then loosen the jamb nut on the bottom bolt and tighten bolt until brake band contacts drum then back out 1/2 turn. if needed, tighten the top again until about 2" free travel. too tight makes them heat up and too loose is what you have. I have found the bottom bolt gets frozen easily, I would put some never seize on the threads before turning the bolt into the housing. if this does not help, check to be sure there is no oil on the drums. good luck
