Here is a few pictures of the D17 I am looking at. Its a 1958 Diesel, snap couple with draw bar and also belt puly and full set of rear pie weights. He is asking me $1500.00. Does that sound about right? Don't want to get a raw deal. It runs well.

Umm, for $1500 and it runs we'll, you should have it on your trailer already !

Did you drive it? If the power steering doesn't work it may be a pain driving until you get it fixed which may be a pain getting parts. Otherwise, I agree, why ain't it on your trailer yet?

The tin work looks great .The only thing I would check before loading it would be to take it down a grade and see if it pops out of gear.I bought a d14 last yr and did everything I could to get it to pop out of gear and it didn't until I got it home and drove down my driveway and it popped out of third. But tractor had great tin and ran just as smooth as can be just that darn third gear is the only thing I can find wrong .But for 1500 that should be in your driveway

will the pie weights in the rear wheels fit onto my d15'a as well? Thinking about getting it for them and the pully, and maybe reselling it, if they will fit that is.

Probably not. 15 has 26", and 17 should have 28" tires/rims. Although, those rims should bolt right onto your 15.
You will probably need to move those rears in to get it on a regular trailer. If you have one over the tires it won't be a problem.

Agree with all the comments above - if the ps works and the tranny is sound, that is a terrific deal. If one or both don't work, it's still a really good deal. Are those rain caps available outside NC?

Nuthin' could be finer, than to be in Carolina...

Looks like a D-17 series I. Considering the fact that Pop's 1960 price book price a D-17 Diesel $ 4600.00.
If it runs sounds like one great deal. I wold run not walk back to pick it up. You may also ask if there are other implements with it.
Let us know how it goes.
Good Luck!

I believe you could buy it to resell here and come out smelling like a rose. A purchase like that might keep a feller from sleeping at night from the guilty feelings.

Looks like a good deal. Regarding the pie wieghts though they won't interchange between a D-17 and D-15. The wheels between the two have different contours and the wieghts are made to conform to those. I think the D-17 weights are larger and weigh a tad bit more. Those pie weights are pretty spendy too. LOL

I wonder if those rear tires are original to the tractor.
I was at a friend's house yesterday who has the '59 D-17 his Dad bought new and the original tires look like the same tread, albeit, pretty well cracked and worn out.

That muffler looks a tad small. Don't want to have too much back pressure.

Those weights will bring $400 in the right place , check the oilf or anifreeze etc and the antifreeze for oil, does it need ether to start on an 80 degree day? how about blow by? if tranny is good, and clutches brakes power steering etc and anifreeze and oil it is a good deal, especially considerign the weights.

I gave $2500 for a good running tractor just like that one. My tin is better, but I had to put 4 new tires on mine. The RH rear tire looks like one of the tires I took off mine. I suspect it was an original.
All I can say is I'll buy every good running $1500 D17D that I see...
Just curious, what serial number is it? My '58 is 5765.
