ok back 3 years ago we bought a 76? idk the year gmc with a detroit 453 in it and it had a pretty bad oil leak so i didnt run it much id just fill it up with oil and load some hay  shut it off then go again lol.. and now im having to haul water  with a 2000 gal tank to about 70 calves

and i got to thinking i could pull this motor toss a 350 in the truck and take the 453 and put it in a 50- 53 GMC pick up thats down the rd (im sure id have to beef the front end up a good bit) but i see ppl doing this stuff all over youtube with even bigger ones like a 6v53 which is even heavier

so does anyone know much about these??? im planing on doing  this winter

the truck isnt really road worthy has no breaks would need tires and it seems like the truck is just to heavy for the little motor (well not so little lol) if i just dropped a 350 in it it could at least be used in the hay field   but it does have fair sheet metal and bud wheels and a heck of a dump under it

Worked on a lot of 8v71 and 12v71, but not the 53. Probably have books on the 53 though.

The 53 series has a different liner arrangement than the 71 and 92 series.

Check underneath the engine, there are to oil lines that run externally under the engine, I have had these get holes worn in them and just start leaking.  Also look under your oil filter, there is a drain plug there that is small, I had it come loose on two different engines, leaks like crazy then...
