Yes. I had mine totally a part and replaced everything I could. A massive job to get the detente' spring and balls in.Probably not worth it. The sloppy shifter is primarily due to the small pin in the hole in the side of the shifter tower. Remove the transmission top from the trans body. My memory is than  than stellar but you may need to remove the clip on the bottom of the shifter near the ball end of the shaft.
You may also be able to simply punch the small pin through he tower and let it drop out. Buy an oversized pin from of the listed vendors her and drive it in from the outside. In addition to the sloppy er my other issue of concern was the reverse lookout didn't engage when shifter out of reverse. After all my work it didn't change at all. Any ideas about what I missed here?

I took a bunch of pictures of doing my 34 WC shifter.  I have them here:

It is the same shift lever mechanism on the styled type, the 34 was the only year with the 4 bolts to remove the rail set up though.  I also have pictures of the shifter on my RC which is the same as the styled WC/WF.

Take the reverse rod loose so you can turn it. It has to rotate for the reverse latch to come off of it. There is a snap ring in the top of the tower that holds the shifter ball down preventing the shifter from coming out, it has to be removed. Make sure you catch the pieces for the reverse latch and then you can pull the shifter out. For the pin slot I welded my shifter back up and cleaned the groove out and made a oversized pin by grinding a grade 8 bolt square and carefully drilling and filing the tower hole out.
