How is the black knob on shift lever attached? I need to remove to replace shifter boot. Oh, I'm working on a CA.

Just pops off. There is a metal ball that it fits over.

Gee, my CA never had a knob It's an early 51. I wonder when they started putting a "knob" on them?

Squirt some dish washing liquid under it. It will slide off easier. HTH Tracy

The rubber can get real hard and never slide off. You may need to take a knife and cut it off
