Wondering what solutions others have found for lubricating the rollers and idlers on the older HD series crawlers.   Below is a pic of the oil pump that would have originally come with the crawler.

If I remember correctly The crawlers built in the 1940's had bronze bushings and used oil as lubricant. When they switched to taper roller bearings they changed to grease. If I had an old machine I would use grease because the seals are likely worn out.

AC used TIMKEN roller bearings - cone and cup in undercarriage - the lube was a 90/120 fluid - like gear oil - it was introduced into rollers through the threaded plug - so flowed into opening with long tube and pumped into until it runs out around tube - then tube withdrawn and plug re-installed .

When I was a kid everybody used a white grease a little liter than regular track roller lube.By the 80's you could not find it to buy, used the track roller 00 grease in the AC rollers same as Cat. Have used the AC nozzle on the Cat volume lubricator. l

I have had Cat sealed for life roller go bad in 2 or 3 days of from seeing leak until junk. Now at the first sign of a leak I add track roller and have not lost any.Several of them have several 1000 hours. The Cat original fill was 30 wt or liter oil for the sealed for life roller.

I don't get the cold  Coke does which may be why he recommends the 90/120, but I will continue to us 00 grease in mine. It can get to the upper teens but only experienced one time it didn't get above freezing for more than a day.

OO or OOO grease could be used - but most individuals have no idea - so when you say grease they think your talking gun grease #2 or a all purpose grease like chassi grease

I bought some this past winter, I believe the bucket says Shell Gadus S2 V220 00. I think it was about $120.00. Thanks.
