Mostly curious, but will have the fwa axle off my 8030 this week. What does it take to move the axle forward? Mine has a large unmachined casting (I assume where the 2wd axle would attach) in front of the fwa axle. Does this get removed? How far do guys move them forward? To the same spot the 2wd axle sits? (110"?). It looks fairly easy, remove the casting, mag drill some holes, longer hoses and lengthened driveshaft. Will it help the ride? This is my only Allis, but it's pretty rough riding.

It probably won't help the ride enough to be worth the trouble.  How much fluid do you have in the tires?  We have an old 4440 John Deere (longer wheelbase than an AC) that rode rough as hell and we we let some of the fluid out of the tires and replaced it with wheel weights and it greatly improved the ride.

More air and less fluid is a good suggestion.  A new seat with fore/aft free travel will also help (reduces back slap).

It will help the ride. It will cut down the turning radius. You don't take that bolster out, it holds your frame rails. Most of them get moved all the way forward. Don't forget about changing your hydraulic filter under there. I prefer, if it can be done, about half way from where it is, to as far as it can go forward. The farther you move it forward, the lower your front end will get, makes them look a lot better when the azz isn't dragging .

I'm a little slow, and not an Allis guy, but that 2wd bolster is exactly in the way of moving the fwa axle forward. Are there different ones maybe? And what do you mean by hydraulic filter? I thought I changed them both recently and they were down low in the back?

You will need to take a power hacksaw and cut that piece of casting off.  Then  remove the four bolts that hold the axle support to the main frame and roll the support forward until  the original holes in the back of the support line up with the original front holes in the main frame, that leaves only the front two holes to be drilled.

Done one several yrs. ago this same way. Improved the ride quite a bit & would make the turn in on 12-30's with a little help from the brake.  Not a bad job & could easily be moved back original if you didn't like it. I think we narrowed the front weight bracket a little to help turn shorter also , otherwise tires would rub hard.

Done it on all three of our 8000's. Would do it again in a heart beat!

Good info! Been considering doing that on my 8070 at some point....

What was the reason for the original short base?

Probably to give it a tighter turning radius than a John Deere.

Poke your nose under the front end. There's a filter up in there that's out of plain view.Could be re-mounted anywhere on the tractor...but not many places to choose from.

Reason this one looks bigger is because of 20.8r42's and 16.9r28's! Lol

That tractor sure looks tough with the big tires and longer wheelbase.

Yup. A tad thicker tube for it. Local machine shop guy did all three of them for us.

Did moving the axle affect the turning radius at all?

Our local tire dealer. Just a step up rim to go from 38" centers to the 42" tires.
