Just got a WD45 that has the shakes when I take it out on the road in 3rd or 4th gear. She will stay in a straight line, but I wouldn't want to hit a bump or make a sharp turn :)
Where do I start digging in to make it tighter? The wheels are bolted on tight and the front wheel bearings are good (one side has a little play and the other side is good).

IS the wheel itself straight and true?

Wheels seem to be straight and don't have any rim bends. I made sure all of the lugs were on tight.
The front axel will "flap" back and forth like a flag in the wind when getting up to higher speed. There is play in the steering linkage, nothing horrible. Maybe about 5 degrees of play while turning back and forth.

Look at the u-joint and stabilizer on the right side of engine they get worn. and then look at the gears in the front end bolster.

I assume you have narrow front. The mailman and I were talking about this very thing last Saturday. He has 2 WD's and I have a WD 45. He said one of his WD's had this problem, and he tightened the set screw between the front wheels. You need to loosen the big nut first, and then tighten it after the set screw is tightened. You may need to take a tire off. It is also a good idea to check that U-joint.

It only takes a little slop or lash to make a narrow front do it. My WC has a lot of play and it seems a lot worse after it sits a while, I think the tires develop a flat spot.

I finally got the Shakes cured!
We took the front end off and pulled out one of the shims on the steering gear housing. We also replaced the coil pins in the steering knuckle as they were worn adding to the steering slop.
After getting everyting back to gether she drove like a true lady and I am quite happy!
Next task to get the lights working again...
