Hi all!

The deal is done, and Dad is on his way home with my latest addition to the barn!  A 1941 styled WC.  Serial number WC 103706
I "bought" it last weekend, but didn't want to say anything until in was in my possession.  Just in case the deal went south.
Her story:
Guy got it on trade for some feed, used it a little, but not really.  Needs some TLC like most antique tractors do, so it was put up for sale last fall/winter.  Guy drove it outside, because he needed room in the barn, parked it where it sets.  Buyer never showed, winter came and went.  Guy put it up for sale again, I call and ask about it last weekend, and the rest is history.

Currently doesn't run, but hopefully will.  Not stuck, Dad and his buddy rocked it back and forth and the fan spun.  bad news is it has a cracked block behind the carb Dad says (guy didn't even know, he didn't really know anything about the tractor).  Holds water though, someone must have put some type of leak stop in it.
Two of the rims are rough, a front and a rear.
Original mag and generator have been converted to distributor and alternator.
Normal dings and dents, but overall complete.
Has a WD 9 loader on it, which I will probably take off and put on my WD, since this is an actual Allis loader, and the one that is on the WD is not an Alllis one.
Here are the 4 pics I have so far:

Dad used the negatives of it to dicker him down to 350$, which I was happy to hear!  He was asking 500$.

Anyone know anything about the front mounted hydrolic pump and guard?

Oh, and we're calling this one "Molly", no reason really, my sister just asked if this one was a boy or a girl and if it had a name.  I said I didn't know yet.  She said how about Molly?  Why Molly I asked?  That's just the first name I thought of she replied!  OK then, Molly it is....  LOL!

I'll keep you all updated, all comments welcome!

I know about the cracked block thing. When I rebuilt my Oliver 60 engine, (has alot of similar design to the AC 125) I had it hot tanked and blasted. It has a little bit of a bulge in the side behind the air cleaner, but it never leaked. I figured it must just have been a casting flaw. It seeped a little after I got it together, so it has GM seal tabs in it...

Boy is that a steal!!  WC's are nice tractors, but I always thought they weren't that handy as they have no hydraulics, but with this baby you got that solved.  If you get it up and running, she will definately be a steal.

It looks like it has a 2N/8N/9N Ford grille guard in the front. Necessity is the mother of invention. That's an interesting installation, but it fills the need.

Well,
Molly is safely at the woods where they just unloaded her.  Dad will go out tomorrow and tow her back to the barn and take some more pics and check her over more then.  He took a few pics today, so I'll post some more when I get them.

Guess the breaks need help, didn't do much when unloading, Dad had to use the engine clutch with the tractor in gear to stop,  LOL!
The tool box is completely filled with acorns I guess,  dang squirrels!
Dad's teasing he's going to steal the bucket from the front end leader, because it's in better shape than his, LOL!

I was thinking Ford on the front pump guard as well, but wasn't sure.  Don't know at this point if I'll keep the hydraulics on this tractor, or clean it all up to make it original.   I'll have to wait until I see it in person.  Like I mentioned, I think I'll take the loader and put it on Wayne, and keep him the functional loader and 3 point tractor.    But we'll figure that all out later.

Will this WD 9 loader hook directly up to a WD's rear hydraulic outlet, or is a reserve tank of some sort needed??

Hopefully this summer we'll at least have her running and driving, assuming we don't find anything major wrong with her!   That way we can access what she all needs to get her back in tip top shape.
I gotta get home.......

Not much to add, but I have a few more pics if anyone is interested.

This is where you hide your nuts! LOL!  What bolted to the two holes in the right frame rail top next to the toolbox lid in this pic?  There was a shim there.

Notice the handy-dandy flip up bracket to hold the loader up when the tractor doesn't run....

Are the brackets around the base of the shift lever where it goes into the shift tower normal?  I guess I never noticed this before, I have a lot to learn about WC's though...

What is supposed to be what in this area?  How should the PTO be?

Anyone have good WC pics?  I'll have to go over and check out TomMN site again, and refresh my memory some.

I'm sure I'll have a ton more little stupid questions in the near future, but that goes along with any new tractor, LOL! Thanks for the help!

The two holes in the right frame rail are to mount the outer support for the power lift which installed on the rear end disconnect box in the driveline just to the left of the two holes.
PTO shaft runs from the PTO through a support bearing which mounts on the two bolt holes on the rear platform.

Good find.  I have  1941 WC 105923.  It seems like people like to weld things on WC's.  Mine had the culivator loops welded to frame .  When we got it, back in 1961.  Don

Seems like a lot of these WC's have matching cracked blocks. Left side behind the manifold. Ole' Herc' my WC has that matching long crack behind the manifold. I'll have to grind it up and JB Weld it. Just getting ready to remove the old blown out manifold, and lift the head. Need to unstick the motor....

Sixty nine years old and still looks good.  For $ 350.  You need a thief's lisence.  The iron is worth more than that.
Great buy!
Let us know how it goes.
Good Luck!

Thanks for the info guys!
I thought the two holes in the frame might be for the power lift after I got to thinking about it, so this tractor must have had one, that got robbed at one point in the not so distant past.

Yep, it's too bad about the cracked block, but dad says it doesn't leak, and there is some sort of silver stuff coming out, so some sort of stop leak must have plugged it.  I'll probably just leave well enough alone there for now, until I can maybe find a good replacement block someday.

Ah, a worn out shifter-fixer, OK!  I thought that looked out of place for an Allis.  I'll have to pull the shift tower and see whats what in there.  Having done that on Wayne, we ain't a skert to tackle that project now, LOL!

And welds, good old welds, how we love thee.... not.

Thanks again, any advice is always welcome!

Quite an innovative setup.  would be neat to bring it back with everything intact. My 37 has the sloppy gearshift fixer.   lol

Hi all,

Yet a couple more pics from this afternoon.  Mom and Dad had some fun towing Molly back to the barn with Albert.  Mom needs some practice running the tractor I guess, LOL!  I'll spare you the details....

But Molly is back with the others, though not without hesitation.  She dropped her loader a couple of times along the way (remember the loader holder-upper bracket? well, it flips down sometimes....).  Seems this is a recurring theme with the last few tractor, they are stubborn to meet their new friends.

Thought you would all get a kick out of this.  The control for the hydraulics is a foot pedal, tilt one way for up, the other for down.  Kinda like a modern hydrostatic deal works, but old. And made out of a idler pulley or something, LOL!
I suppose this makes since, seeing as a guy already needs three arms to operate this tractor, with the steering and stopping and everything.  Darn hand breaks, he he.....

And here is a pic of the front pump.  Anyone know anything about it?

Hi all,

Well, Molly isn't running yet, but Dad did tinker with her some today.  He cleaned out the filthy sediment bowl, and since he was draining out the gas from the snowblower for the summer, he dumped that in the tank to check for leaks, etc....

Things looked good, so he had my brother pull him around on Molly a little.  Got gas to the carb and everything, and says everything sounds good, but with no battery (& its distributor)(which he realized mid yard) he soon figured out it would not start, LOL!
So back to the barn.  Took and jumped the starter from the other tractor, and the starter at least grunted and wanted to work, but with bad wiring and grounds, etc... they just called it a day.

So needless to say when I go home for Memorial day, we should have her running.

It's going to be a busy weekend....

Well all,
No good updates unfortunately.....
I did however, spend (waste?) most of the afternoon working on Molly.
Don't know if we'll get her to run this weekend.  Pulled the valve cover, and things don't look too bad.  Some condensation (hopefully not antifreeze, don't think so) but not full of crud.  Two valves (number three cylinder) were stuck though.  I got the intake freed up, but the exhaust is stuck open.  Bummer....
Had absolutely no luck trying to get it to turn over.  The wiring all sucks.  I'll have to try to get it started when I have Dad to help pull start it.

So, this might be a stupid question, but if I disconnect all the wiring, and start from scratch, all I really need to get it to run is a wire from a battery, to the coil, to power the distributor, right?  Or am I forgetting something?

I just want to rig it up temporarily to see if it will kinda run.  Ideally to get it running enough to see what condition tranny, rear end, clutch, hydraulics, etc... is in, before I decide what route to take with this tractor.

Ahhh project tractors..... we love them right?

On the plus side, I did get 99% of the crap out of the toolbox.  Nothing good.  About a zillion cotter pins.
And I did find an original winged gas cap stuck down inside the frame rail by the clutch.  Wonder how long that has been riding around down there?  There is another cap on the tank.

Anyone have a more productive day than me?

Hi all,
Update from today.
Molly is DEFINITELY a woman tractor.
Do I even need to finish this post?  LOL!

Dad, Grandpa, me, and my sister's boyfriend (G-pa, and boyfriend not much of mechanics) all monkeyed with Molly today to try to get her to run, or at least some as-semblance of running (a few pops and sputters would have made me happy, ya know?)
But no, she protest the entire way.
Like I think I mentioned, the exhaust valve on #3 cylinder is stuck open.  Intake was stuck, but I got that freed up.  We monkeyed, but could not get it loose.
So we figured, well what the hey, lets pull it around and see if she fires up at all.  I had already put the carb from Wayne on her, because I have gone through that, so its good enough to at least get some engine action.
Had gas to carb, though could be better flow.
I think spark was our major issue.  Again, as I mentioned the wiring is all jazzed up on this tractor, so we disconnected everything and just hooked a wire from the battery to the coil.  and grounded the battery.  That should be all a guy needs right?
But the cap and rotor, plugs and wires are all sketchy at best, so no dice.
Couldn't even manage a pop or anything.  Frustrating.
"ran last fall"....... my foot!
I should have just gotten new cap, wires, plugs, etc... for this weekend, but just didn't. Have to have them waiting for next time I guess.  It's tough working on things in the woods, you have to make do with what is out there, which is never what you need.
I guess I'm just a little tired and let down.

But at least she ain't stuck.....  Got to look at the positives!
