Folks,
Was a little bored so thought I would put this group of pictures together for your viewing pleasure. Yep its picture heavy.  For those with slower computers, sorry in advance.

This is WD number three in our collection. Purchased 7-4-2013. It had a stuck engine. Had WD45 type replacement block.
Just some pictures to show that it was brought back from the edge with some shade tree work and engine and wheels from the donor WD.
This tractor must have spent many years not working, and under some amount of cover.
The steering wheel still has all the Bakelite. The steering rod has no wear at the joints. Snap coupler sounds like new. Very little play in the pedals. Fenders are still there too.
Seat shock functioned. Sheet metal was not too bad, a few dents in the grill. Battery box was toast.
So I drug this home and couldn't leave it alone:) Took several months to get it moving.

As found about a hour from home. Yep it is pretty rusty and crusty. Wrong decals its not a 45'. But I didn't know that till I got into the engine.

Made a mistake and took a trailer with me:)

Unloaded it, rested in the shade.

Engine needs a look.

Found several bent push rods and stuck valves on top end. Further work to find the issues with this stuck engine.

With head off, found Number 2 and 3 pistons stuck tight. Soaking at this stage.

Tractor had to be jacked up on the connecting rods and then gently beat the tractor down over the piston to break both these free. It was not pretty:)

Even after the pistons were removed the engine would only turn over 355 degrees and come up against a hard stop.
Finally took the front timing cover off and found these broken teeth from the governor gear wedged in the cam gear. Good thing I did not force it with a "bigger hammer"!

At this point It looked like a complete engine rebuild. And I did not know if the rest of the tractor was OK or not?

Proceeded to pull the badly rusted center sleeves and found good used sleeves at Sandy Lake.

Bottom of engine shot as sleeve puller is positioned.

Used a piece of tubing and the Ford draw-bar, and 5/8 all thread, with the puller caps.

Power washed inside of water passages while sleeves were out. New to this engine sleeves to go back in.

Ready to install. Used dish soap as the lube on the rubber o rings.

About this stage I found the donor WD parts tractor and did engine swap. New donor engine ran real strong.

Front of the Jubilee was a little light with this WD engine out there 8 feet:)

Back together it is ready for local tractor pull. Yours truly at the wheel in one of my more scruffy moments:)

Also the wheels and tires were changed. This rim did not want to come off. Had to heat and make a wheel puller. And even then it came off with a bang!

This past summer the electrical system was up graded to 12 volt. Gages, swithches, alternator new wiring , battery and custom battery box.

This WD gets to do some actual work too.

Regards,
 Chris

Thanks for this posting, I really enjoyed viewing this. Your WD was similar to a 41 WC that we bought that had a dealer replacement WD45 type block with all WC internals original short head etc. Went a slightly different route with that one since we had a complete 45 engine with a bad frost cracked block, but good crank, tall head, distributor, carb, etc. Transferred everything from the wounded engine to the good block & now have a WC with a "true" WD45 engine. G'morning Chris,
Seems to me I saw these pics a while back?

Did they weld the ears for the 3-pt onto the rockshaft?  One of mine has the ears welded to a pipe that slips over the rockshaft.  Handier that way and a lot easier to get the shaft out and off the tractor.
I like the wheel puller!  I'll have to remember that trick the next time I have to take one off.  I tried driving around with the lug nuts loose a little, but that didn't work for me.  I'll give your trick a try next time!

What is different about your 'custom battery box'?  It looks taller.

Why the slots cut out in the 3-pt lower arms?  Must be for clearance somewhere?

That's a GREAT looking work tractor!
Ted

Stan,
Your not the only one that says that!!:)
Ted,
-The battery box has the lid and the side as one unit. I just whittled this box from a old piece of rusty sheet metal that was sitting here.
-And the three point system came with the tractor. Old arms off something else. the needed the notches to clear the pivot arm when in the up position. I just made them a little neater when I re installed them. Yes the top ling was welded to the pivot shaft. I did not like that and made a "U" shaped piece of steel 1/2 thick that can be removed.
Regards,
 Chris

I am looking at these photos, and at you indicating that I can attach pulling chains to the the front and rear valve cover bolts?

Yes you can.  Do as Chris did or use a 2 foot long piece of angle steel to go right down the middle catching the two bolts.

When I saw this old post revisited, I had to take a look myself!:) Sometimes I wonder how I get into these messes?
Yes most of the engine pulling procedures show lifting from the valve cover bolts too.
Yes a good Ford drawbar with the series of holes makes a dandy tool for tasks like this.
We just used this WD tractor for hauling firewood and the log spliter tonight. My son commented how good it runs! Actually it is the best of the three WD's that I have. Least hours or wear on joints and pedals, transmission is tight and has good snap in hand clutch! Except it is not cosmetically restored. Maybe someday it will get a much needed paint job?:) Its getting a lot more rust and crust from setting outside!:(

 Chris

did I see the original knob on end of hydraulic lever on steering sector,

are the originals bakelite?

never seen an original before

thanks

I use the word bakalite for old plastic. but the knobs on the hand levers were rubber I believe. Someone will tell us. I know this tractor had been cleaned up once because it had the wrong decals. So the rubber knob may not be the original.

 Chris

I never caught this topic back when it was new. Looks like you did some good work and still running strong.

See? Those Fords have lots of good uses. Most people just won't admit it.
