We have a d15 and a 170 and i would keep the 170. The 170 is more operator friendly.
I love that old 15, but it runs away from you going down hill, has a lot less power and jumps out of gear. The 170 holds itself well and has plenty of power.

The 170 would be my choice. What does a $600 170 look like? I'd love to find one, LOL!
Is the block cracked or need replaced?

Is that tractor missing the cap on top of the air cleaner. Or does it not have one?

You don't see much on here about 170's because I do not believe there were that many built,Farms were getting bigger at that time and bigger tractors were more popular.190's were made in larger #,s I believe.A 170 is basically a D-17 with new sheet metal, hyds.I would love to find a Early model 170 or 175 to have.Have seen plenty of them on here from time to time.Someone posted a pic of a long row of them not to long ago.
No way to keep both? Depends on what you need,D-15 good mower and good light tractor for everday use.170 a little larger ,Harder to manuever in tight spaces but would be better suited for plowing snow and field work. |
