Nice to see ancient technology still being used to make a living.

The Henson family still has a couple of those old mills here. Pretty cool to watch them run. They cut a lot of trailer flooring and siding with them. Everytime somebody around here says "I need some trailer boards" somebody will tell them "call Mark" or "call Newt"

Mark talked about selling his for a short time and then he said "I believe I'll just keep it. I figure, fire, every man needs a board"

Thanks for that awesome video. There is a similar mill still sitting in a barn near here. The big engine is gone but the boiler and all the small engines for edgers and such are still there. It was still running and sawing in full production until 1975. Ithe place is for sale but sits on the Buffalo river and very expensive. I heard it recently sold. I thought it would have made a perfect tractor/engine show grounds. There was an old store right beside the mill.

I’ve worked at two different mills that sawed railroad ties and semi trailer floors. I ran an edger at the second mill for several years.
Tendinitis got so bad I couldn’t lift the coffee pot in the mornings but soon as I got loosened up it wouldn’t hurt the rest of the day.
It didn’t pay much but I dearly loved that job and the people I worked with.

There is one 6 miles south of me. I have expressed interest in buying it. Old guy that put it together passed away. Son won't sell, he says he has to work 2 more years before he can retire and start running it. Not steam powered like that one or the one in the North East part of the county. This one is run by a 77 Oliver or 350 or 460 IHC.

There used to be a mill around here that was powered by an old Oldsmobile station wagon. I wish I had pics. They kept lots of supplies in the back of the car. I believe the car ran on propane.
