I'm having trouble finding an oil filter for my 1940 AC B. It requires a filter that has threads on the outer perimeter, not the stem up the center. Any thoughts?

I just changed oil in my 1940 B this weekend. Used a NAPA 7011. I wouldn't use
a Fram filter if you paid me!

My local Napa had it in stock. Just changed the oil and spark plugs in my B last night.

I thought we put the lid back on that can of worms.... LOL! There's a few on here that don't like Fram filters Jay. There's a few youtube vids on the Fram filters that shoot the filter down big time. Hey, to each his own. I ran em' on my race cars for years and never had an engine issue. They run em' on 10,000HP Top Fuel Cars and don't seem to have any problems either, but cars n' trucks is another thing I guess... (?)

It sounds like you have no experience with the bypass oil filter used on a B (and several other models). When you remove the filter, unscrew it and then lift it straight up. There is a metal tube that goes up into the filter from the filter base. Sometimes the tube comes off and stays in the filter when you remove it. You need to make sure the tube is in the filter base, when you install the new filter (it just pushes in). if you don't have the tube in the new filter, you will have no oil pressure.

Like Curt mentioned, sometimes those oil tubes get rusty, or they get thrown out by accident because if you're not familiar with the setup, the tube still maybe in the filter yet and unknowingly toss it in the garbage. We have the new tubes in stock as well as the oil filters. Andrus, I'm just putting the finishing touches on your 3 position switch. I can add anything to the order if you want and ship it all together for ya. Your call there....

Well, the pistons in a top fueler can about be thrown in from across the garage, and they get rebuilt every 18 seconds of run time, so…..just how important is the oil filter in this case? ![]() |

One problem is the guys that say " FRAM FILTERS" dont have a clue what they are talking about. Many vendors make a specific filter.. Then they BUY the other type of filters from a different manufacturer. Many filters are labeled from 3rd party vendors..... and the C159 is 100% DIFFERENT than a paper element car filter... NO COMPARISON at all..
I used FRAM filters on the small ALLIS tractors for YEARS... When the WIX and NAPA were CHIT, the BEST filter to buy was FRAM...... Now WIX has improved and ALL the filters are the same - GOOD -..... so buy on PRICE, not name when you are buying the mason jar thread filters.

Well T, they must be of some importance. They're used in tandem and take a 330 mph ride every run. But, I hear what your sayin'... Good analyses Steve. By-pass filters are a whole different animal.

If you do want to buy a Fram C159, the only places I could find them is Farm and Fleet and Fleet Farm.
No comment on whether good or bad.

I was curious, went online... NAPA want $24.32 for a NGF7011 meanwhile I can buy a FRAM C159 from CTC for $9.98. I've never had any issues with the FRAM filters and at 10 bux, guess I should pickup a 6 pack.

YEP....... if you can get LOCAL you normally do better... On LINE they will charge you an extra $5- 10. to ship... If its FREE SHIPPING, then they added it to the PRICE of the filter.

I bought 2 boxes 12 filters from agco 7 or 8 years ago, three tractors take same filter, still have some left so I don't worry about off brand.

Personal preference. I don't like Fram filters. In case you haven't noticed, everyone has an opinion on here. I have mine. Use whatever suits your taste. Doesn't bother me.
I just make my purchase decisions like everyone else. Shoulda just kept my thoughts to myself.

The BAD BATCH was a screwed up design with the WIX FILTER...probably over 10 years ago...... FRAM NEVER had a problem with the C159..
