Bought a C. Non-running, just the way I like it. After fixing a few things I got it running but no oil pressure. After a bit was able to prime the pump and got oil pressure. Drove it around and made a few more repairs. (jumps out of third gear).
Next day while deciding the fate of this tractor I wanted to move it to a remote corner. Started it and no oil pressure again. What will I find when I get it apart?

Have you checked the oil filter first?

Might be missing the center tube in the filter. If so, that messes with the pressure.

By no pressure, I meant to say no oil at all coming from the pump. After I primed it, then I had pressure. The next day no oil at all.

Think about placing a drinking straw in a glass of liquid then placing a finger over the top of the straw and lifting the straw out of the liquid. You see it retains the liquid but when you remove your finger and the liquid drains out or in the oil pumps case, looses its prime. To loose its prime it has to have air to hold it finger in place to hold the oil from running back down into the oil pan so to speak. A cracked or loose stand pipe will cause it at the bottom end or to much clearance over the pump vane rotor. That can be caused from wear on the cover or a thicker gasket than around .007 under the cover. It could be in some cases the ball check in the stem but it would cause a freer flow thru the stem into the camshaft that could effect the pressure. All of which means at the very least removing the oil pan and then splitting the tractor if it is not found on the bottom side. Other than that is to prime the pump before each start. |

Rust or a worn spot on the check ball is what I have usually found.

If it was fun to pull in LOW gear, I could have a John Deere.
Real pullers don't have speed limits. If you can't make it GO... make it SHINY |
